Long one of Toyota ’s strongest markets, Australia will soon receive the Toyota FJ Cruiser .

The retro-styled two-door off roader was designed primarily for the North American market, the FJ Cruiser’s basic design should nonetheless resonate with Australian buyers familiar with the automaker’s Land Cruiser vehicles. Toyota has essentially commanded the Australian market’s off-road and commercial vehicle segment with various iterations of the Land Cruiser not sold elsewhere.

“With looks like no other SUV, FJ Cruiser comes to Australia with a pedigree that stretches back 50 years to the legendary FJ40 Land Cruiser,” Toyota said in a statement released to Australian media.

Since its introduction in early 2006, the Japan-built FJ Cruiser has only been offered with its steering wheel on the left, thus making it incompatible with Australian roads.

A pre-production right-hand-drive FJ Cruiser is set to be unveiled in October at the Sydney Motor Show before sales begin toward the end of the first quarter of 2011. Australian FJ Cruisers will be built in Japan alongside those destined for other markets.
