Toyota’s diminutive iQ has been awarded the 2008 Japan Car by a landside vote by 65 members of the Japanese motoring press. The iQ, which will go on sale in Europe in early 2009, is not currently slated for North American sale – though Toyota executives have been notoriously tight lipped on the rumored possibilities of the small car making the voyage across the Pacific.
A group of 65 jurors selected the iQ by more than 300 points over the next-closest finisher, the Citroen C5. The Nissan GT-R , Audi A4 and Jaguar XF rounded out the top five of the 41 new vehicles nominated for the award.
The iQ city car was chosen as the top vehicle in the contest by 39 of the 65 jurors. Each juror was given 25 points to distribute amongst the vehicles – 10 of which had to go to one car and 15 of which had to be allocated to four other vehicles as the juror saw fit.
