Toyota ’s iQ minicar — which was shown in concept form earlier this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show — will be powered by a Yamaha-sourced motorcycle engine, a new report finds. The iQ, which could begin production as early as 2009, will feature a 1.0L engine developed by the two Japanese firms. No performance or economy ratings were made available.
According to Automotive News, Toyota will produce about 100,000 iQs in its first year of production, with 80% intended for the European market. Toyota has yet to give word if the iQ will make it to our shores, although emerging markets such as China and India remain a strong possibility.
