Toyota unveiled its 8th generation Land Cruiser for the 2008 model year. The new SUV was completely restyled, taking some front end styling cues from the Toyota Tundra. The truck is longer, taller and wider than the model it replaces.
While various engine options are available globally, the only powerplant offered for the U.S. market is a Tundra-derived 5.7-liter gasoline V8. Between the front fenders on the Land Cruiser, the powerplant matches the Tundra's 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a six-speed auto. The new powertrain allows the Land Cruiser to tow 8,500 lbs -- up 2,000 lbs from last year.
The new Land Cruiser features optional KDSS suspension, co-developed with Australia's Kinetic, which uses a hydraulic system that controls the front and rear stabilizer bars to improve stability.
The truck will be equipped with Toyota's new "crawl control" system which controls the engine and brakes to maintain a low speed when traversing off-road obstacles such as rocks, sand or steep hills.
Prices for the 2008 Land Cruiser will start at $63,200 - $6,985 more than the old model.
