If you read the data table on lexus cars it looks much worse then the article points out. Only two vehicles had positive sales trends. The ES350 at .4% up and the IS series at 929%.7. Everything else at lexus was down and most was down in the double digits.

The only exciting cars these people have ever produced were the Supra and the MR2, both of which are long dead. Why do people buy these bland soulless appliances? A lot of Americans and people in general must hate cars, because these are the ultimate non-automobiles. I personally would never sacrifice style, handling, power and personality on the alter of supposed reliability. Please buy a nissan or a honda or a DC product, anything other than these whitegoods.

Toyota understands the market Period.
May not be much for enthusiasts, but for your average Joe carbuyer, Toyota builds a hell of an appliance.

The gauges are designed to be retro and not a copy cat of the electroluminescent ones that everybody else uses. It’s called individuality asswipe and it’s not a negative concept. Oh.. my car is American(ish),V-8 powered, RWD, 17 ft long, three box proportioned, distinctive and chrome laden, not only is it a REAL cruiser it is the ONLY REAL V8 cruiser sedan.

Ah…more people buying their crap. Good. Sooner or later their purchase will bite them in the ass. Then they’ll come crawling back, begging for an American car.

HEY 2006300C! Have you not seen the FJ Cruiser, the 07 Camry, Avalon, Rav4, Scion TC, and the various Lexus models? You and 1c3d0g need to really rethink your comments before you make uneducated statements like that. I have owned domestic products before AND am a proud patriot. “American” cars don’t hold a candle to my 05 Camry. All I have done is change the oil, rotate tires, and put gas in it. 25/34 mpg’s, high resale/residual value, what’s not to like? Nervermind comments from J.D. Powers, Intellichoice, AutoLeaseGuide.com, and Consumer Reports, Toyota/Lexus/Scion are some of the best products out there as far as all the data and customer comments are concerned. If GM, Ford, or Chrysler could make something comparable and have Lexus-quality build standards, reliability, and high customer satisfaction, I’d be in all the way!

The reason why the people are “buying their crap” is because they got burned by the “American car” in the first place (I know, I got burned by a few GM dumpers). Why would I “crawl back”? If anything, there are enough import brands that could satisfy my needs if I decide to try something different, GM in particular will never get a lookt ever again!
Why settle on garbage in a market with so many choices elsewhere?

Reality Check
Hey 16 and 17 – I agree completely with you – I own a 95 4runner and a 2001 es300 – Both run like champs! In fact I was passing EVERYONE on the road this weekend on two lane roads in my es300. My wife chose the car and I am VERY happy with her decision. No matter what people say how boring it is has a lot of get up and go. I was cruising at 80 mph and getting it 95 to 100 on passes without even blinking. Oh, one more thing i think #15 was being sarcastic.
