Following a global sales stop and production shut down, Toyota has announced an official recall of the 2010 Lexus GX 460 luxury SUV. The Lexus GX 460 came under fire early this month after Consumer Reports called the SUV’s handling a “safety risk.”
The voluntary recall covers 9,400 2010 Lexus GX 460 models. The recall will update the GX 460’s Vehicle Stability Control system with new software. Toyota says the software update will eliminate the SUV’s unsafe handling characteristics.
“ Toyota’s objective is to provide a high level of safety and quality, while meeting or surpassing governmental regulations. Our engineers have conducted tests to confirm the VSC performance issue raised by Consumer Reports, and we are confident this VSC software update addresses the concern,” said Steve St. Angelo, Toyota chief quality officer for North America.
Lexus dealers are expected to have the software fix in-hand by the end of the month, with vehicle repairs slated to begin in early March. Toyota says the software update will take about an hour to complete. No other Toyota vehicles were named in the recall.
