Did you listen to the 911 tapes? The guy sounded terrified. Had he been calm, maybe, just maybe he might be making it up. But even then, the CHP could smell the brakes. Why would he lie?

Of course not. Would you be able to think if your car accelerated out of control to 95-100 MPH? I didn’t think so. Why would some 56 year old lady floor it into some wall and send herself to the hospital just for attention? Come on, there are less idiots than you may think.

A classic case of operator error. I’m sure the truth will come out, but I’d bet it was a floor mat problem. That problem’s been around for years. My 2001 Ford Winstar used to have the same problem.

He called 911 and reported that his gas pedal had become stuck, and spoke to dispatchers in two calls that spanned 23 minutes. The 911 dispatcher repeatedly told Sikes to throw the car into neutral and turn off the ignition. Sikes often didn’t respond to her instructions, but he later said he had put down the phone to keep both hands on the wheel.

Try shifting into Neutral. Since the Prius doesn’t have a key or steering wheel lock, how about just pressing the power button and turning the car off.

It sounds like these people really aren’t thinking when they claim to have these “accidents”.

While Toyota may have some quality problems, and maybe somewhere in this news there’s an actual problem, I think many of these claims are just muddying up the water and making it more difficult to figure out what may really be happening.

What if the guy in this video is none other than Dr. Fill? That would explain the embarrassment of the whole scenario, and it would also explain why we haven’t heard from him much…

This thread definitely beats the gt500 story, our banter in here is actually just playing instead of actually getting angry about other people’s personal opinions. Hmm.. I better say something on topic. 10:00 news had a lady reporting “UA” in her driveway… straight into the stone wall. I’m thinking that one is a hoax. Oops, there is already a story about it on LLN.
