After 76 years and 11 months of production, Toyota's cumulative vehicle production has surpassed 200 million units. Toyota said the milestone vehicle was produced sometime during June.

Toyota, which at the time was simply the Automotive Department of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works Ltd., began vehicle production in 1935 with the Model G1 truck. Since that humble start nearly 77 years ago Toyota has grown into one of the world's largest automakers, with cumulative sales now in excess of 200 million vehicles.

"I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to our customers the world over who made it possible for us to reach this milestone," Toyota president Akio Toyoda said. "I also have the most profound respect and gratitude for the efforts of all persons who were involved in developing, manufacturing, and marketing Toyota and Lexus vehicles over the years. We are determined to make our cars even better, to continue to give our customers the best possible product."

As of the end of June 2012, Toyota's cumulative production in Japan reached 145.21 million vehicles while overseas production reached 55.12 million unit.

Although Toyota's production story started with the Model G1 truck, the brand's top-selling model is the Corolla.
