Toyota has announced the recall of certain RAV4 and Toyota HS 250h models over a potential rear suspension defect. So far the safety recall is limited to vehicles sold in the United States.

Toyota announced on Wednesday that it is recalling 760,000 RAV4 SUVs from the 2006-11 model years and 18,000 2010 Lexus HS 250h sedans for a possible rear-end defect. Toyota says that a nut on the rear suspension arm may have not been torqued to spec during rear wheel alignment service, which could cause excessive play at the threaded portion of the arm. That play could allow the formation of rust, which could cause the arm to separate, increasing the likelihood of a crash.

So far seven crashes have been linked to the defect, although no injuries or deaths have been reported.

Toyota is still working on a solution for the problem, but plans to alert owners of the recall in the coming weeks.

The RAV4 remains one of Toyota most popular vehicles, but the HS 250h recently went out of production due to slow sales.
