A defective seat belt is a huge deal, and the recall is warranted. Chalk it up to growing pains and see it for what it is. Proof that Toyota’s reputation is not much more than public perception, as usual. There is no perfect car company, and Toyota never has been close. They were simply the ‘other man’ who was there to pick up the pieces when our love for domestic iron went sour.

GM fires…. most of these cars had a valve cover leak and recommended at some point for a repair. The owners that chose to neglect a simple valve cover gasket repair (all manufacturers have leaking valve covers) were shocked that oil followed the rules gravity and ran onto the exhaust. (supercharged engine exh manifolds are much hotter than NA mtrs) Shocking. Most import owners gladly pay for a simple repair like that. Most domestic owners are skeptical they are getting hosed by a flat rate mechanic. Its ok, GM will goodwill new engines for owners that have never changed their oil. Lets see you get a warranty or out of warranty repair out of an import without a service history. Didn’t think so.
Injuries were most likely a result of negligence. Do you think someone got injured getting burned in a car in the drivers seat from a fire at the engine? More like burnt eyebrows opening the hood and diving in for a closer look.

Actually this recall was announced by Getrag, the manufacturer of the rear axle. They made GM aware of their mistake and hence released this recall to replace to affected parts. Getrag manufactures many parts for many companies including BMW and Porsche. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getrag
Unlike Toyota, GM took the blame for the defect and didnt blame Getrag(which the imports defiantly would of)

I hope you realize that a skewed Fuel Tank Pressure sensor will only provide false FTP reading that will result in excess vacuum that will set a Type A DTC with a resulting MIL lamp. Most people would have gone to a dealer and received a replacement ‘Made in Singapore’ sensor and be on their way. Accidents and injuries. I think not.
Because it is an emission control, a safety recall was issued.

The HHR is a 2006-2008 Model I was having a hard time finding that recall but thanx The truck owners reported to NHTSA that both homes were badly damaged and two people were injured in one of the fires. The trucks set homes on fire ! Homes possibley with Children OH THE CHILDREN
GM is recalling 275,936 MY 2005-2007 Cadillac CTS, SRX, STS, MY 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice, and MY 2007 Saturn Sky passenger vehicles. The rear axle pinion seal does not meet all of the specifications and may experience a fluid leak. A rear differential failure may cause loss of motive power and possibly loss of vehicle control increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the pinion seal.
Umm I thought you said the recalls were from 5- 15 years ago . When you can admit that GM is making recent recalls on their new models (which further proves my point and negate your point) Toyota may have caused 6 injuries compared to 267 GM fires and over 8 injuries including buring 2 homes down its still better to buy the Toyota

No, I’m saying that based on my 20+ years of experience that your biases and statements are incorrect. I can’t explain the mass delusion that jap cars are better than domestics. For the life of me I can’t figure it out. I’ve dealt with some of these people who insist their car never breaks when it’s in my shop because it’s broken! But funny thing about the public. Their perceptions change from time to time, and everything is cyclical.

Also, I tow vehicles for AAA and believe me I get to haul a lot of jap brands to various shops. It happens. It happens a lot.

Oh, and let me be the first to call BS on you when you go crazy over the latest GM recall announcement LLN will eventually cover. It seems that in one crash test (one) that a dummy hit its head on a door pillar and might have gotten hurt. So even without any injuries GM is fixing it. I can’t wait to hear more BS from you on that!

Yes. And when I say that I’m saying that ALL manufacturers have problems. I’ve taken Hondas on trade from very disappointed owners who’ve discovered there is no panacea of quality. I’ve had customers who’ve experienced abnormally high levels of problems with their GM vehicles as well. I’ve owned DOZENS of GM vehicles over the years, and am yet to have a car that I couldn’t rely on. Your experience might have been different. But more likely you’ve never even owned a domestic and think you’re smarter than everyone else because you have a Honda. I’ve seen it all too often…

2. You said “GM has already injured people and Honda and Toyota have not.” My previous post showed that from this one toyota recall 6 people where injured( thats all Toyota would confirm although there were more)

GMs recalls involve a range of vehicles that go all the way to current models
My above recall was just one of the many recalls some of which had thread on LLN
I don’t think anyone has a PERcieved bar of perfection for any car but there are some cars that are less likely to give problems and when comparing the Japanese vs. American, the Japanese car is less likely to have issues. The resale and the numbers speak for themselves
If you seriously think that GM is on par with the Japanese then fine but the numbers show otherwise. If you buy American over Japanese your decision is based on either stupidity patriotism or hope none of which are reasons to consider a GM when shopping for a car
If you like your Cadillac’s or Pontiacs then fine just don’t buy it on patriotism.
