Hyundai is a threat to Toyota and Honda too. With each new automotive generation they seem to achieve qualitatively what took anyone else 2 or 3 generations to pull off – including the Japanese Big 3 – and for a load less cash. My bet is that Genesis will be a fantastic car for the money.

But does “not taking a chance” involve bashing your own country’s auto industry and [I'm guessing here] not stepping into their showrooms in the past who knows how many years to see one of their cars?

And I did give proof for what I was saying! I said that cars like the old Malibu, the Taurus, and the Crown Victoria have such bad resale values because they are dumped into fleets!! Now is that now believable to you? Because it makes pretty damn sense to me. Do you want to me to go pull out some random study by ‘kelley blue book” out of my ass to prove the obvious? On the other hand, vehicles like the F-150, Silverado/Sierra, Corvette, Mustang, etc. have the better resale values because they are not sold to fleets as much. Domestics are pulling away from fleet sales so I’ll take you up on your offer – you’ll see that as early as a year from now there will be reports on domestic resale values greatly improving because of reduced fleet sales.

Lastly, I agree about Hyundai. They are making some pretty hardcore Asian cars right now… they are going down the same road as Toy and copying everything they did so they are definately a threat to domestics.

You can argue and argue but resale value reliability is on the Japs side. This can be proven and your whining about how GM is just as good cant be. I dont want to see some 90 day 3 year study that says the car will be (assuming) reliable.
Consumers need solid PROOF. Consumers need a resume of the car itself and they need to see the car go for the long haul. This is in the cars history. Like I said if in 10 years that Malibu’s resale is good and its consistently in the top 5 reliable cars list then I’ll buy the **** you are shoveling

I don’t know what world you live in but anywhere you go you have to prove yourself. No one gets a pass just based on assumption or whining. The American car companies screwed themselves and they deserve the situation they are in.

No, it doesn’t. They’re two separate things. [Build] quality is how well a car is built, whether the pieces fit together or if there are big gaps, whether there are creaks, what kind of materials are used, that type of thing. Reliability is just that – if a car is reliable, if you can count on it not to break down all the time. Resale value is how well it holds its value. That has nothing to do with quality or reliability. The main factor that determines resale is if the car is popular and if there are a lot of it on the market meaning that if an automaker dumps a lot of their cars into rental fleets, those cars have bad resale value (which is why Ford Crown Vics and Tauruses sell for half price after a year or two). This is also why the Big 3 are all making the smart decision to cut back on fleet sales. I think I really did need to explain all that, you sound like you don’t know anything, you are just one of those people that buy into Toyota quality from 15 years ago and now you are loyal for life and you hate domestics for the mistakes they made 15 years ago. Times have changed 1115, get with them.

Kelly Blue Book doesn’t measure the QUALITY of cars – it’s for assesing the value of cars (primarily used ones) and to show resale values you dumbass. It has nothing to do with quality – you just proved my point that you selectively choose which studies to cite and ignore the ones that don’t support your claims (and the majority don’t support you, domestic quality has increased dramatically).

Ricardo is talking about the fact that Toyota USED to make superior cars (which is how they got to where they are now) but lately, their quality has decreased and ALL other automakers have caught up. Did you read the latest JD Power studies, initial quality studies, long term tests studies, and so on and so on that show that domestics have caught up? Or do you just ignore those 1115 because they don’t support your mindless, endless talk about ‘TOY IS AWESOME

Yea they are playing a game of catch up with the Ipod. Excuse them for spending more time on engineering a great car that will last long lol. The domestics are playing catch up in that area
Maybe instead of making quality cars Toyota should worry about cupholders and gloveboxes that warm and cool your drinks

I own 2 Toyotas, but don’t like Apple’s exclusiveness, and laugh at the fact that you have to pay $300 for this when a lot of other cars offer it standard. Sounds like Toyota is trying to play catch-up.
