And yet you say you aren’t keeping up with the Joneses? What do you think every person who purchases a Camry says? “Well, its a good buy for the money, reliable and efficient.”

The only thing worse than the masses, are the counter-culture groups that are anti-establishment, failing to realize they are their own clique and establishment.

Veda: So you’re telling me that I should just do everything I do on a daily basis based on what the “people” or the “masses” do? That sounds like a bad idea to me. Why would I want to “keep up with the Joneses,” especially if I think they’re making bad decisions? If I were to live my life like the masses (at least the people I see everyday), I’d be in major debt, working a dead-end job, and just waiting for the government to bail me out when I claim bankruptcy. No, I don’t want to buy what Consumer Reports tells me to buy. I buy what I think is a good vehicle for the money at the time of purchase. Since styling and powertrain are important to me, I’m not willing to settle for a bland grocery getter with low horsepower. You go buy whatever you want.

Your original argument holds true if you’re part of the “people” they talked about which means having your logic does all the actions.

It’s all about freedom here, and I am exercising my right NOT to buy these vehicles. Lots of people on this site freely express their dislike for the vehicles I like to drive (often vehemently), so why can’t I do the same? I never said they weren’t decent cars, I just said that they’re boring…and they are. Boring sells because the masses in America have their heads up their asses and do whatever the media tells them to do instead of thinking for themselves. If the media decided tomorrow that driving a golf cart was the hot new trend and hyped golf carts as the answer to the oil crisis, you can bet that the masses would be out there tomorrow buying golf carts.

I’m okay with combining Tacoma/Sienna sales…What I’m NOT okay with is combining Solara/Camry sales.

As someone over at Cheers and Gears said, people would deride GM if they tried to put their Monte Carlo/Impala sales figures together, and those vehicles have about as much in common as the Solara/Camry.If Camry gets record sales awards, I call it bogus.

Kenny, Tundras have been given heavy incentives, so they’re selling better.

They’ve got a big hit with the RAV.

Most people here don’t understand the draw to Toyota. Most people here want RWD, 6 Speed 2 door coupes that get 15 mpg and smoke everything on the road. These readers, don’t make up the majority of the market. The majority of the market wants automatic, reliably, efficient. Toyota gives them all of these things.

90Z, pull your head out of your ass, just because YOU don’t like them doesn’t mean they aren’t good cars. They fulfill the requirements of the masses, which is the ideal market. Isn’t this common sense?

You’re kidding, right? I refuse to spend my “hard earned cash” on their vehicles. Their trucks are a joke, and I wouldn’t be caught dead in Prius or a Camry…or better yet, a Yaris. These vehicles are the epitome of boring.

All manufacturers count mini van sales as light truck sales. It’s the way it is! Look on Autotrader and you won’t find any vans listed, you have to click on the link to truck trader to find vans.

Toyota make vehicles that people actually want to buy and pay hard earned cash for. The big three for the most part get there sales by buying people off with big discounts. If they keep this up, they will all go broke.

How are Tundra sales up? That baffles me. I also find it interesting that Toyota calls their minivan a truck as well, that adds 14K units to the truck division. I also cant understand why Toyota still sells the Land Cruiser, it has a terrible sales record, is a gas hog (goes against Toyota’s “green” image), and other than enthusiast nobody associates it with anything good or memorable. The Land Cruiser + GX & LX series is barely able to scrape 3K sales together.

Toyota car sales on the other hand surprises nobody. Record sales will continue into next year for them.
