Sold in the US as the Scion FR-S (and the Subaru BRZ), the car's new aero package is designed to minimize aerodynamic drag while also increasing the downforce on the vehice for improved handling stability. Interestingly, Toyota claims that the aero kit maintains the GT 86s already slippery 0.27 drag coefficient.
Toyota says that the side skirt design includes includes a rounded leading edge to assist airflow evacuation from the front wheel housing. The rear bumper skirt has a profile that projects horizontally, to manage air turbulence from the front and fin and assist in evacuating under-body airflow.
Capping the package off, the large rear spoiler features horizontal winglets on the uprights, to help generate downforce and optimize handling stability. The rear spoiler center section is painted gloss black on all exterior color offerings.
The package has appeared for sale in Australia and adds $3,000 to the starting price there. There is no word on the pricing for the US market or its availability at the time of writing.
