Even though Toyota caught-up with the world’s biggest automaker this year, General Motors, the Japanese automaker has no plans to slow down anytime soon. Toyota is aiming to sell 10.4 million vehicles worldwide in 2009. The lofty goal is thanks to an increased demand in North America and China, as well as several other emerging economies.
Toyota’s market share in mature regions, such as North America and Europe, have been growing with strong sales of the Prius and RAV4, supplemented by Toyota’s entry into the full-sized truck market with the Tundra. The 10.4 vehicles will also include sales from Toyota’s subsidiaries Hino Motors Ltd and Daihatsu Motor Co Ltd. According to Automotive News, Toyota sold 8.8 million cars in 2006, just behind GM with 9.1 million sales.
