Hardly!!! I’m the owner of an Aveo and it’s been the most expensive car to maintain in my 37 years of driving. Has had numerous problems that required pricey repairs and it still doesn’t drive like anything more than a crappy toy.

There’s a reason people buy Civics and Toyotas, GM_SALES, and it isn’t because of the car mags recommendations — it’s because they last.

Key word in that quote: WILL. Yes, they WILL, but that is hardly at the top of the consumer list right now. And I wasn’t talking about Chinese cars in specific (which are about as safe as riding a motorcycle) but rather cars in general. When they buy a car, they go for the one that is cheapter (usually the one that is less safe)

Toyota will never be #1, you know why? Because GM has been selling cars longer! TO the idoits who say American cars have cheap plastic interiors, what do you think imports have? Steel interiors? All new cars have plastic interiors, yes even maybachs and rolls royces!

Commodore, your first statement is about as asinine as it can get. Just because the Chinese car companies make unsafe products at present does not mean that Chinese consumers will not demand safer cars. The Chinese government will have to work on the law first though.

Desire and what products actualy are available on the market are not the same.

GM, you don’t care if the Aveo is made in Korea, Mexico or US. If I slap a GM badge on my turf, you would try to say it is better than a Toyota.

Please, GM’s doesn’t have a minicar. The subcompact Aveo’s are Korean sourced a la Daewoo. Dip ****.

Hugh Jass nailed it. They probably won’t change a thing in the Toyota and mark it up for healthy profit.

That’s because Scion and the Yaris are failures. Owners are up in arms over quality issues, poor reliability and dismal quality. Only owners in the small segment who have defect free, perfect cars are the Chevy Aveo owners. Toyota should take notice

With Scion and Yaris development, you’d think Toyota would have a handle on developing a small car.

But why develop and build a minicar for emerging markets. Why not also “target” established minicar markets like Europe?

The only maker who can successfuly build a minicar is GM. Toyota is going to struggle to meet GM quality and reliability just like Smart, Mini, etc. all have and still can’t. Toyota just doesn;t have the ability to build a quality car like GM

Here is solution: bicycle with 3 seats for China, rickshaw for 3 for India, vodka for Russia. Good for environment and will control price of oil for our market. Those developing economies are killing us.

I don’t think that quality is that important if the car is targeted at the Chinese market. People there look for the cheapest car – I don’t think that they are concerned with having a safe and well-built car as much as they are concerned with having a car — any car
