CTS: I think that's where most americans are.

Me: Low taxes, no bailouts of corporations, limited farm subsidies, almost no welfare, isolationist foreign policy for the most part (no geneva Conventions for terrorists), free trade that's actually free trade, no gay marriage (not on religious, but on inventors-rights grounds), decriminalization of weed. AND ABSOLUTELY NO EARMARKS!

I think we should crap or get off the pot on illegal immigration, but that's a 4,000-word post.

More importantly, I think Donkeys and Elephants both can and do come up with good and crappy ideas. I like how the GOP quickly dropped Craig. If Romney wins the GOP nomination, I'll vote for him, otherwise, who knows?

Commodore, while you are quoting WSJ articles, did you read this line in todays WSJ (page W6): "You'd no sooner consider driving a Chevy than you would building your wardrobe from WalMart."

Seems the perception of GM goes far beyond a few people online.

FWIW, I want to see the Big3 rise again, but they are going down the wrong path to do so. Antiquated business processes wont bring the Big3 back.

Commodore, my original comment was in response to 1115s comment. Since you seem aggravated at what I wrote I will respond to your tangent.

First, you are writing your comment to me but you are asking me to provide evidence for comments I never made. I suggest you take out your frustrations with the person who wrote those comments.

Second, you spent an entire paragraph writing about GM having more exciting cars than Toyonda. That is a subjective argument so there is no need to respond. No facts can be presented in subjective arguments so no resolution can be obtained. Plus my original comment never discussed the cars looks so it off subject. If you are itching to know I dont think GM or Toyonda have great looking cars... equally ugly for my tastes.

Third, you dont want to look at historical data because we are buying cars now, not 5 years ago. Fine, you dont want to admit GM has a poor recall record in the long run. How about "General Motors (GM), DaimlerChrysler (now Chrysler LLC), and Ford led the [Most Recalled Car] list in 2006" - BusinessWeek 8/17/07. Teh 2006 most recalled list was less than a year ago which is recent.

The entire point of my original comment was people need more than a small set of data to start claiming Toyota is gone bad or that GM has become a quality leader.

CTS: I'm not singling you out. I'm talking about the fools in Congress who are always on TV, and Li'l Jorge. Democrats have one note, and they've proven they can't be trusted either. On the state and local levels, the two main parties or more likely to admit that some things people in the other party say make sense.

I'm no liberal. I'm closer to libertarian than anything else

Tripleonefive is getting mad. Maybe we will all be lucky and he will go away so we can in fact talk about cars intelligently and get the kids of the site.
Almost 1230pm, back to business.
Your doing the same thing, what is it you do that affords someone like yourself such luxuries as 12 year old cars to brag about.
Little boy, your Mommy needs her lunchtime foot rub. Keep going, I love this crap.
Kill yourself? Time for a new comeback little boy

Driven that is perhaps because you haven't been reading all my posts. I never claimed that the G8 and CTS (which haven't gone on sale yet) were reliable. I used those examples to justify that GM's newest products were more exciting than Toyondas and had just as good exterior and interior designs (exteriors are actually much better). I claimed that cars like the Sky, Solstice, Outlook, Acadia, Enclave, Aura, and Vue were reliable because NONE have had any major recalls.

Driven, are you buying a car NOW or 5-10 years into the past? IT TAKES TIME FOR REPUTATIONS TO CHANGE. Read this: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB118972842681227168.html?mod=hps_us_at_glance_mm
Personally, I am more scared of Toy recalling more than 500,000 SUVs NOW than I am about GM recalling their last generation SUVs (2 million of them). Why did GM recall 2 mil? Because they OWN the SUV market. If toy sold as many SUVs as GM they're recall would have also been 2 million instead of 500,000. As for Cobalts safety problems and Corvette problem that COULD CAUSE the roof to fly off.....I believe you; you provided evidence for that so you can stop saying it. I just think that some unspecified safety issues for the cobalt are less of a worry than wheels falling off your civic. If you'd like to see the FJ problems posted on a non-forum website, I'll get that right to you but I just thought you'd like to see the pictures. Now let's see, GM had problems with 2 million of its vehicles TWO YEARS AGO, Ford has some problems with over 3 million of their older vehicles, and Toyota has problems with 3.5 million vehicles with the sludge thing. You think it's not real or not serious? Go back and read the article then

Toyota is indeed much more streamlined than GM, that I agree with you on. But they and Honda are no longer the only carmakers that make quality cars - GM can do it too.

I cant believe Im typing this but I agree with 1115's last comment. Many cars people are touting as reliable are too new to have any significant data. Looking at the last 5 and 10+ years the recall numbers favor the imports.

Thats not to say the imports havent recently had some growth problems but 1.5 years of recall data is no need for a rush to judgement. Its not like the Big3 that has seen more than its share of recalls over the past 5 years, 10 years and on.

The key is how the imports will correct the recalls and implement changes to reduce future recalls. That is something that took the Big3 decades to master. If the imports can be faster at corrections they can remain on top of sales and growth. Companies like Toyota are leaner & more streamlined than companies like GM so changes can be made faster.

The CTS G8 and other cars are new and have not proven themselves
My evidence is more credible than your FJ fan site and people whining about engine sludge. One year of recalls doesnt make up for 20 years or even the last 2 model years I cited. You keep ignoring the FACT that the 2006 Cobalt and Vette were recalled along with 2 MILLION GM trucks. I never get tired of posting so this weill be another thread that goes to 145. As long as you lie and avoid the truth Ill be there to to correct you

"can make false claims of GM and Toyota being on the same level "

Except I actually back my claims up with evidence (such as the high number of Toy recalls and low number of GM recalls) whereas people like you, the import humpers, just say it's a false claim and that's it. Or, if we are fortunate, we get to hear so-called "evidence" from 2-20 years ago about cars which I AGREE WERE CRAP. You have no proof that the new products GM has are unreliable. You try to use cars like the Lucerne and 2002 Tahoe to prove that the Aura, Lambdas, Sky, Solstice, CTS, G8, and so on are unreliable. It doesn't work like that

Shockingly good looking toyota, and nice numbers too. The basic Camry hauls ass for family mover, this thing must be near the 5 sec mark to 60mph and mid to high 13's in the 1/4

Go visit your dad Lbz
In 2008: Supercharged SS was dropped from the model lineup, while the SS coupe and SS sedan were renamed to "Sport Coupe" and "Sport Sedan" respectively. GM does some weird shit

last time they had a recall was 2006 for the Cobalt and the Corvette The Cobalt was a safety recall and the Corvettes roof flys off! That is their franchise sports car and the fucking roof flys off ! On top of that GM recalled 2 million plus in 2005 HMMM Toyota didnt
I can send you the links smart ass
One years doesn't make up for 20 plus years of poor resale reliability and build quality They have two DECENT car in their lineup now Those lambda's and the CTS but thats not enough. Also Just bc Toyota has one bad year doesn't make GM have one good year

Not related to the S/C or high output, yeah right.

I had a '99 S/C Solara that had gobs of power to the front wheels after I got a smaller pulley and exhaust. The problem was the piston lands crumbled with more than 5.5psi of boost and the knock sensors were extrememly delicated at even lower boost levels. Plus I burned 1 quart of oil every 3k miles. I never blew an engine, but I tried...
