The last chapter on Toyota ’s Supra sports car may not have been written yet as a new report indicates the program is still alive and well within Toyota. It was believed that Toyota killed its new-age Supra program last year, but the sleek two-could emerge by the end of this year.
According to the fan site 7Tune.com, Toyota has been secretly working on a new Supra for the past several months. As previously speculated, the new Supra is expected to largely build off the FT-HS Hybrid Sports concept of 2007.

Power for the new Supra will be provided by a 3.5L V6 coupled to Toyota ’s hybrid drive system. Combined output of the V6 and electric motor is expected to be in the 400 horsepower range. Torque should be equally as high, thanks to the torquey nature of electric motors.

However, those not into the idea of a hybrid sports car will have an alternative. Toyota is reportedly developing a version of the Supra sans hybrid drive. The hybridless Supra model will likely be down a bit on power, but should more than make up for the loss with a reduced curb weight.

If the reports prove to be true, the new Supra will debut at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show with sales slated for late 2011.
