Toyota to debut Venza sedan at Detroit show

12/19/2007, 4:03 PM

By Drew Johnson

Toyota has announced that it will debut a new sedan at the Detroit International Auto Show next month. Dubbed the Venza, the new sedan — which Toyota actually calls a “crossover sedan” — is not a concept but rather a production model. Toyota failed to release any other details on the vehicle, but did release this statement: “Venza will be a unique blend of sedan and sport utility vehicle, offering seating for five, easy ingress and egress, a car-like ride and functional utility.” Check back for more details and images after the Venza’s official debut on January 14th.

Maybe Toyota should focus on making products that don’t need to be recalled instead of introducing new ones that noone asked for. First post.

The Venza? What the **** is a Venza? I remember the Nissan Stanza. I’ve heard of Mensa. We all remember Tony Danza. This definitely tops ‘B9 Tribeca’as the dumbest new vehicle name in recent memory.

It sounds boring, stupid, and unnecessary. This current idiotic trend of trying to create “bold, new vehicle segments” is getting very tiresome. I remember all the hoopla over the Matrix being a “segment buster” when it was released; it ended up being just a tall, compact 5-door hatchback companion to the Corolla. Not exactly what I would call a “ground breaking vehicle”.

I would much rather see Toyota create a fun, sporty, front wheel drive compact sedan for Scion that would actually compete with the Honda Civic and Mazda3 (since the hideous, appliance-like 2009 Corolla is definitely not up to the challenge) instead of squeezing another superfluous “crossover sedan” product into Toyota’s already overstuffed lineup.

Doesn’t Toyota already market half a dozen 5-passenger sedans and several more crossovers in the US? Where the hell would this fit? I figured Toyota’s next new US model would be a small 7-seater wagovan (i.e. Corolla Verso) targeted at Mazda5/Kia Rondo/upcoming Chevy Zafira. What the hell is this? Oh, and “Vensa” is a little too close to “Versa”.

27 posts above mine are making interesting peak into dynamics of this blog:
no one could see the car
There are absolutely no details on mechanicals
26 posts already expressed absolute distaste and disdain for the vehicle that nobody seen or knows what its guts are
one guy tries to defend company that makes the vehicle
and last but not the least there was a bit of racism, but this time I had nothing to do with it and even did not start it

Keep on blogging!

Not really autonutt.
I for one simply pointed out that the one part we do know (the name) is retarded. Also, a bunch of other people said that they think it will resemble Toy’s FT-SX concept so we talked about the CONCEPT not the car that is yet to debut. There were some who made preemptive comments, but not nearly as many as you tried to say.

1115 – you can’t be serious. We both know that the Tundra is one of the worst full-size trucks out there. Have you ever considered that Motor Trend was simply trying to balance itself by choosing an import for truck of the year? They would get hammered if they chose a domestic after their COTY choice is domestic (CTS). Them picking the Tundra is no indication of anything, they are just doing what they always have – import humping. If you want to restart the Tundra vs Silverado argument though…keep talking.

Have YOU ever considered that Motor Trend doesn’t know what it’s doing, and only picked the CTS as COTY on the “stopped-clock-is-right-twice-a-day” principle?

tripleonefive- Too bad they already have bashed Toyota. Go drive a Tundra, drive a Ford and drive a Chevrolet and see the difference. I can tell you first hand that the Chevrolet is top par, and the Toyota is the substandard, as I have driven all three. Ford set the bar and has done so for years.

jackjim- Big two Japanese? Remember, Nissan is not Japanese! And Honda doesn’t quite make a “true truck”.
