Toyota to export U.S.-made vehicles

10/09/2008, 10:36 AM

By Drew Johnson

Although the U.S. produces a large number of vehicles each year, very few of those U.S.-built cars wind up on foreign soil. But times are changing — thanks to a slumping economy and the relatively low value of the dollar – and Toyota is looking to take advantage by exporting some of its U.S.-made models to markets outside of the U.S.

According to Automotive News, Toyota will export some of its U.S.-built light trucks in an effort to reduce its already overstocked inventory.

The plan will see Toyota shipping its Sienna minivan to Latin America and the company’s full-size Sequoia SUV to the Middle East. Both vehicles are made at Toyota’s Princeton, Ind. Plant.

Toyota’s exporting plan will also include sending its California-made Tacoma to Mexico.

Although the exporting strategy isn’t ideal for Toyota, it should help the Japanese automaker to keep inventories at appropriate levels. And with tens of thousands of each model earmarked for export each year, the plan should also secure thousands of U.S. jobs.

Way to spread the ****ty quality and terrible reliability like my Camry and my sons Tundra. Toyota is overrated garbage and now the rest of the world will experience the same junk that I did as well as the rest of us unlucky Americans. GM quality is second to none and the world knows it so Toyota will fall falt on their asses

This is good news, really. I don’t care what kind of cars you like, the exportation products made by American workers is good for us.

And this is why inflation is a good thing. Weaker dollar= more cost-productive to build and export here.

I don’t understand complaining. Ford and GM import cars from Mexico and export jobs there. Toyota reverses the trend. Is this bad?

It makes business sense. I definitely understand why toyota is doing this.

DVSUTTON, you’re that GM fanboy. You’re not fooling anybody. What’s your stance on a GM vehicle that’s korean?? OR, the Chevy matrix and Toyota Vibe?
