The part that I find most amusing is that they go ahead and say they will be changing the accelerator PEDALS yet claim the issue is with the loose FLOOR MATS. Also, if the floor mats are so loose how can they possibly hold the accelerator pedal to the floor? Stupid japanese fucktards.

Ok, maybe you’re not the dooshcanoe I though you were after your first post. I can see you’re at least trying.

‘Build quality’ is another nebulous marker in my opinion. Is this where you’re measuring door gaps, how nice the plastic on the dash feels, etc? It means nothing when the truck rusts out from under you in 5 years, though.

Once again, I’m glad you like your Toyota. So far my favorite car ever is a Pontiac and my favorite truck is a GMC. So what? It doesn’t mean these are the best vehicles ever produced, it means I like them the best – and that might have nothing to do with ‘build quality’. Maybe I like the exhaust note, or just the way they look. Hell, maybe they were just the right color. It doesn’t mean GM is the best manufacturer, or that any other manufacturer’s stuff is below par.

And none of this has anything to do with Toyota and unintended acceleratioon.

The VWs drove great, but had tons of squeaks and rattles after a few months, they were from 03 and 04. The Chevys weren’t the best built, but I never had a serious problem with either, the Cavalier was a 98 and the Blazer a 2001. The Escape I got last year so I can’t comment on reliability yet, but it does have an annoying squeak coming from the front driver’s side wheel upon moving from a stop that the dealer can’t fix.

I also didn’t say I had problem with all the other cars I’ve owned, I commented on build quality. Actually of that group, the worst built were the CR-V and Civic, both of which were 2005 models. I wouldn’t buy another Honda after those 2.

Ahhh, the old “I just know” defense, coupled with your cousin who worked at a dealer. I get it now. Sure, let’s trot out the venerable consumer reports, or as I like to call it, “Toyota Afficianado Monthly”. Great model they use – ask their readers to rate the cars they recommended. Sort of a self fulfilling prophecy if you ask me.

As for Japanese ‘quality’, I’ve been in the biz for years myself and I can tell you FIRST HAND that all makes break down – every one. Sure, some more than others, but they all have their problems. I’m glad you like your 4 runner, I really am. But as far as it blowing away the other cars you’ve owned, my guess is that since it’s the most recent vehicle you’ve bought, and quality has been rising across the board for 40 years now, you’ve simply bumped into what many others have also experienced with their american cars. I can attest to 100,000 plus 100% trouble free miles on my ’03 Bonneville, 45K trouble free miles on my ’05 GTO, 196,000 ‘almost’ trouble free miles on my ’97 Yukon (all the problems happened after 150k), and on and on.

But you go on believing the ‘truth’ because you’ve lived it. I’m sure you’ve done enough research to have come to such an educated conclusion. Your posts have proven that much… :rolleyes:

A 1992 Ford Escort was the most reliable car I have ever owned, hands down. It outlasted both my sister’s Honda Accord and Acura Integra, one after the other. I got the Escort, she got the Accord, killed it, got the Integra, killed it, and THEN I traded the Escort.

I know, they weren’t Toyotas, but my Escort was an American car, and I drove it like a bat out of hell all the time, and never had an issue.

The Japanese companies built their reputation for quality in the 90′s, so people assume they’re the best today. Realistically, they’re just not as good today as they were back then, but in comparison to to the s**t quality of the American companies and the electronic problems that plagued the German models in the late 90′s and early 2000′s, the Japanese models stood out of the crowd. The crowd is now finally catching up in quality, making the Japanese cars not stand out so much. Just as the Big 3 got lazy and cocky with their quality, Toyota and Honda seem to have done the same in the last few years with certain models.

My proof is that I lived through it and seen the quality issues first hand. My cousin has also worked at a Toyota dealer for the last 30 years and he told me the same. If you want to see for yourself, you can check Consumer Reports, but they don’t have records going back far enough for a solid reference. So far my 4Runner has been the best quality and most reliably built car I’ve had. Since the early 90′s I’ve owned a Blazer, Cavalier, CR-V, Civic, GTI, Jetta, Passat, Ford Escape, and 4Runner. 4Runner blows them all away in overall quality and reliability, although the German cars were the most fun to drive. I’m also not blaming the American worker…schmuck…I’m blaming Toyota for using cheaper components to maximize profits.

My 4Runner is 7 years old and runs like new, interior doesn’t even have any squeaks or rattles. Best car I’ve ever owned thus far. However, since Toyota started building cars in the US, they have gone a bit downhill. The Japanese built models are more reliable and of better build quality. Same thing happened with VW when they started building cars in Mexico.

Why would there have to be a fix? These are TOYOTAS! They NEVER break down, they are the best engineered, best built, and most reliable devices on the road! Built by the clever Japanese, who know more about mass production than any American ever could, plus they are not watering at the trough of the UAW, who is completely responsible for every defect on American cars.

Maybe when the Toyada guy was put in charge and he said something about the monumental problems facing Toyota (to which many of the Toyota fans on this site said were nothing compared to the D3′s problems) that he was hinting at this very issue? Maybe he knew from internal memos about the [snow]storm headed Toyota’s way? Just a thought, but if I were a white collar prosecutor . . . that’s where I’d start digging . . .

This isn’t over. Toyota keeps leaving a trail of bananas as a diversion but the monkey isn’t buying it.

One thing I don’t believe anyone has brought up yet is whether or not this is peculiar to North American issue Toyota product or if it’s a global problem. If it is only happening here then either it might lead them closer to the real cause or just add to the mystery.
