sj79, i’ll agree with you on your comments regarding nightly news broadcast… they serve up a :30 clip and that’s the only impression Americans get of Detroit. ABC, NBC, CBS should be ashamed of themselves for the shoddy news service (not that it’s just the auto industry they’re weak on… how about, oh, international politics? lol)

You are an absolute and utter idiot Triple……again and again you pull out this toyogasm crap when the data proves you wrong every time. Quality? really ever bother to check out NHTSA consumer complaints and recalls? Your Camry and Tundra are absolutely taking a beating. Fuel economy? pull the Prius out of the equation and what do you have? Hell GM smokes Toyota in over 30mpg models and Ford owns as many segments as Toyota. Safety? Ford and Honda dominate that. So just what is Toyota good at? Smoke and Mirror and living on past glories. Factories? last time I checked the D3 each and every one provide far more domestic jobs than Toyota. Support? What did they provide after 9/11 or Katrina? Nothing. Goverment money? The EU just gave them a bunch and now they want their government to be more aggresive in currency manipulation. Fact is they are just as greedy as any of the D3 but are far more sneeky about it the same as their manipulation of the recall process.
Borat Fords market share is actually increasing over the last two months while Toyota’s is decreasing. That said Toyota is in better financial shape currently but as their domestic market moves away from auto ownership it will be very tough on Toyota. It is because of this and other factors that Honda is actually considering moving its entire operation lock stock and barrel to either the EU or US.

Ford has enough money to last through 2009.

Toyota and Honda had worse sales declines than GM and Ford in December. Actually Toyota was worse than ford for the last two months. For December the J2 did worse than the D2. period. Stop the spin machine if you can.

I watched ABC news and they didnt even mention Toyotas 37% drop. They only focused on Detroit even though Toyota is bigger than Ford and Chrysler. Apparently Toyota’s sales drops are never big news.

I haven’t read anything suggesting that Toyota and Honda are doing worse then domestic in US market. I saw reports that in December of ‘08 Ford lost less sales compare to December of ‘07 then Toyota and Honda, but that the bit of best results for domestics. Granted, everybody is experiencing tough times, but neither Toyota, Honda or Nissan are getting billions of their respective taxpayers funds or going out of business (that was grand plan for GM & ChryCo). Ford is scheduled to be run out of cash by spring of ‘09.

For the month of December, Toyota and Honda experienced greater sales declines than did GM and Ford. Yet the surrounding narrative of the news reports was about the reluctance of consumers to buy from manufacturers that are on the verge of bankruptcy. The fact that the American companies on the verge of bankruptcy are going better than the Japanese companies that are not was simply ignored.

Don’t forget that last buck for Toyota stop’s in Japan, and not the U.S. the same goes for their Finance Institutions the payment you make to Toyota Financial dose not stay state side. And,…. NONE OF TOYOTA CEO’S ARE CLASS ALUMNI WITH Mr. W. BUSH…. Unlike GM that most of their chair holders is composted of Mr. W. Bush old classmates… And friend’s of the family up cores… That’s how the Rich stay Richer and the rest of us stay in the same hole we are in… LOL…Don’t you love it….

Toyota deserves a bailout from Washington more than he Big 3 do
They make better more fuel efficient longer lasting reliable cars and have been for the last 15-20 years while D3 made crap skimmed on safety features to save a buck
Toyota makes cars here while D3 have plants in Mexico and shut down US ones when they dont have to and shouldnt
While it is bad to lose money Toyota is still and more than likely always will be in a better financial position that the D3.
Reason being people want their cars and the truck industry fell apart when gas rose and it will happen again until Patriots learn to buy fuel efficient cars

this cant be accurate. More anti Toyota propagangda from LLN. Toyota is making the cars people want to buy, including the “best selling” Prius which was like the 17th best selling vehicle in the US last year and got outsold by three pickups.

I love how the rationale for defending Toyota has done from “they are making billions while Detroit begs for money” to “they may be losing money and sales but at least they arent asking the US government for a handout”. Since when did that become something to brag about? BTW, they are begging the Japanese government to change the value of the Yen to help their financial outlook.
