iglesias: "Toyota knows just how to fool dumb American consumers. Give a prius some leather seats and wooden trims and it’s a l---s!"

Worked for the Camry, didn't it?

I like both Vancouvers.

HemiRoadRunner: " I HAD a civic, biggest pos I’ve ever owned." Lot of that going around.

drchiem: "Please don’t be narrow-minded and asumme whoever bought the Toyota/Lexus are stupid." No, but they are easily duped Crown owners.

I will assume that people who say "comsumer report magazine don’t lie" are stupid.

02WRXPSM: "Like it or not, the Prius is an iconic vehicle that’s going to go down in history like the Volkswagen Beetle and other game-changers in automotive history." you're right.

arclight: Better you than me to leave Cali for Kentucky. But why are you cencerned with the size of another man's equipment? That's for pointing out who the gooks are. Get y'all's slurs straight!
You got more than twice the milage out of your Civic that I got out of mine.

I'm also an Air Force academy alum, but I'm a FORMER civic owner!

I've been reading this website for a long time now. I've never commented here though. Mostly because many of you people aren't worth the time.
One of the most vile here is obviously Hemi, who no doubt drives a Hemi because he has a small dick. Work has forced me to move from N. California to N.Kentucky/Cincinnati and I'm surrounded by ignorant, racist, homophobic, flag waving assholes with more psychological "issues' than they can handle. It comes out as tough guy bullshit, especially behind the cloak of the internet.
The bottom line to this topic of hybrids and EVs is, evolve or perish. Period.
Disrespecting others who have been proactive in this effort, by calling them "yellow" or "gooks" is just fucking stupid. By the way... a "gook" is a Vietnamese not Japanese. Thats twice as fucking stupid.
The writing has been on the wall for a long time and "our" car companies chose to ignore it. Instead they increased oil demand with inefficient vehicles, and insured car demand by making them inferior. All the while they waved a flag over the whole thing to make the suckers open wallets and take it loyally in the ass.
Those loyal suckers continue to hate, be decieved, and most important buy inferior products while increasing the oil demand. None of which will help anyone, ever. Evolve or perish.
I personally own a Honda civic (2001). In Jan 2006 it had 80k miles on it, and since then I have put an additional 107k miles on it. I can get 450mi. from a tank without trying. I average 36-38mpg. To top it all off I drive like a man on a mission. CC stays on 75-80 at all times. I put an average of 1600 mil/mo on it for work alone. Never had a problem besides a dead AC compressor after 150k mi. I think my front struts need to be replaced, but hey... they've gone almost 200k miles.
Unless my country takes action to make quality and efficient vehicles instead of re badging garbage, I have no plans on buying a domestic vehicle. I don't need to act tough on the road, or on the internet. My penis is fine, I have all my hair, no compensation required. I would think that some of you supposed "engineers" would be smarter. As a matter of fact, my uncle is an MIT grad and Air Force academy alum...(engineer). He and my aunt both own civics.
I hope you are able to change your ways. If not, I hope you don't have any ignorant children tainted by you. Evolve or perish.

Can't anybody read here? There will be two NEW hybrids debuting IN ADDITION to the Prius, one for Toyota and one for Lexus, and both will be larger than the Prius. So there is no "Lexus Prius". I would have assumed the Toyota would be a Venza Hybrid, but the article states it is an "all new car" so I'm guessing the Toyota will be a huge Rover-style hatchback, and the Lexus version will be a notchback sedan. Just a guess, but likely a far more educated one than some of the nonsense that has been posted above...

As per usual, plenty of ignorance to go around (starting with Post......uh.......1).
Toyota doesn't seem ready to risk the uber-valuable Prius name on Lithium just yet, but should be ready by 2011 (model year).
As the people have shown, they are ready to spend money on an upscale hybrid, provided it compares favorably with the competition in economy/performance.
Heavy is the head of he who wears the crown.

I'm not a big Toyota/Lexus fan, but to mock the Prius or the people who buy it is just rank ignorance. Like it or not, the Prius is an iconic vehicle that's going to go down in history like the Volkswagen Beetle and other game-changers in automotive history. Sure, it is no fun to drive, but it isn't like anyone else has stepped up and made such a commitment to a platform which clearly has a strong (and necessary) future. When the tech from the Prius trickles down to all the other vehicles out there, and 45-50 mpg becomes the norm rather than the exception, you'll all benefit whether you like it or not.

@ Tom F

I completely agree. If government wanted to really help the people now or in the future. They would propose to start offering incentives to consumers to help in the purchase of a fuel efficient or hybrid vehicle. If government can offer incentives to purchase an SUV or truck; why not something for hybrids and fuel efficient cars or trucks. These incentive would both motivate some to purchase these vehicels and also give Manufactures more of a reason to make these types of vehicles. We know that some of these incentives have worked to get some to consider vehicles.

Why do we have some many arrow minded opinion on this comment column. I am still driving my Lexus 2002 LS430 with a 130,000 miles on it and it is still running smooth and perfect. With the service that I has done so far was the 3,000 miles oil change, brake pad, new tires and 60k miles service. No wonder consumer report recomment it to anyone over BMW and Benz. Please don't be narrow minded and asumme whoever bought the Toyota/Lexus are stupid. If you are those people than you must be "I am sorry to use this term" an idiot because comsumer report magazine don't lie.

@ horvatic
Your math is off. Going 450 miles on 8 gallons is 56mpg. Not even a gay ass Prius can do that.

Good idea Toyota. Make the new fagmobile a Lexus and make it look like a GS. Fucking yellow ass gooks.

1115 are you retarded? I have more than one car. I am an engineer, I did previously work as an auto engineer in another state before I got fed up with it and moved back. I HAD a civic, biggest pos I've ever owned. Learn to read properly. If you ever laid your hands on my wife, I would kill you in a heartbeat and $H!T on you.

1115, why would you come on here and talk smack about someone's wife? We don't talk about your boyfriend now do we. Keep giving the japs like "Katsuaki Watanabe" more of your hard earned money. My car is a hybrid anyway, it burns gas and rubber.

Thanks odie. I mentioned in the article about the B Class the number of Asian drivers I see behind the wheel. We have a very large Asian population and they really do seem to flock to German marques. That and the fact that the average detached house price in Vancouver is now hovering around one million dollars means that if you live in the city you probably have lots of money hence a lot of Porsches.

If the government would commit to hybrid technology in public-sector fleets (transit buses, trucks, motor pools, delivery vans) and then create incentives for private-sector fleets to go hybrid (taxis, long-distance buses, school buses, etc.), hybrid technology would mature a whole lot faster, and acquisition costs would come down for regular people.

johnny, I noticed that too when I visited Vancouver last summer. And I also noticed a disproportionate number of Porsche 911s. I have never seen so many 911s in one place before. BTW, beautiful city you got there man, definitely coming to back to visit again.

The Prius averages from 40 to 48 MPG. Usually you can go 450 miles on 8 gallons of gas. This is city and highway driving by the way. Only idiots would call people driving a Prius an idiot.
I can only see the next generation Prius getting even better milage.

Actually, johnny - in the city and running lots of miles is where hybrids shine. That's why NYC busses have been hybrids for years (BTW, made by GM). The question is where does it start to pay for the average consumer, and how much polution they save/cause. I see lots of Priuses around my area lately, and I can't help but wonder why. I live in a rural area with hardly any stop and go traffic (unless 1115 is performing in concert or something). This would be where the Prius is most inneficient. So I can't help but wonder what these people think they are accomplishing...

What the alternative? If you live on a budget and need to get to work F150 or Tahoe. Not everyone is wealthy like contributors of this forum. For some people $4.25 gas is painful and for some it even cuts into a beer budget, which certainly anti-American.

I probably wouldn't be a good candidate for a hybrid because I rotate several vehicles throughout the year. We all know what happens to batteries if you leave them sitting too long. What I have noticed, however, is that just about every second cab in the City of Vancouver is now a Prius. It's almost unreal. If they're standing up to that kind of useage then laugh all you want, call them idiots or whatever but they obviously work. The cost versus savings equation must be to their advantage if fleet operators are in so deep. Most of them may not speak English but that doesn't mean they're stupid.
