Following the less than stellar financial results reported earlier today, Toyota now has some good news to share as Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America has announced that it will be boosting North American vehicle production sooner than expected.
TEMA says that the boost from May production levels of just 30 percent to 70 percent in June will be driven by the return to full production for eight models: Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Matrix, Sequoia, Sienna and Venza.
Toyota says that it will be able to return to normal production levels sooner than expected for these models due to intensive countermeasures being taken by its suppliers in Japan. As a result, parts availability has returned to normal or near-normal levels for several vehicles much earlier than expected.
“Our team members and suppliers are working closely on countermeasure activities to improve the parts condition from Japan. We continue to develop solutions in order to restore 100 percent production as soon as possible for all of our North American-made vehicles,” said Steve St. Angelo, executive vice president of TEMA. “We appreciate the patience of our customers and dealers.”
Toyota also said that it is hoping to return to full production in North America before the end of 2011, slightly ahead of previous schedules.
