I have driven both the older and newer tundra. They seemed nice enough. So my comment will be the newer one really doesn’t look that bad once you reach a certain trim level and is surprisingly peppy …i mean really .Its accleration number putsin the low 6’s 0-60. My mechinic owns one..and although overall pleased its plaugued with electrical, and expensively complicated sensor groups.

I don’t like trucks per say….if your gonna get one , get a deisel that can pull and carry a ****load of poundage. Japans valiant efffort into a completely American areana ….just shows when we what to do something right., We prevail over a percieved technologically advanced company like Toyota.
Stick to corolla toyo. Texas? my god they are everywhere.

Once again, Dr. Fill has to get something in there to say about banging on domestics. The Freestyle isn’t ugly, but bland. It’s actually my first choice to get my parents to replace their Taurus wagon. Lastly, if they outsell Ford and their mission is “accomplished”, why would they be trying to fit in and keeping up with Ford? Your statement totally contradicts yourself.

But I’m not going to fall into your argument, because it would be foolish to argue that Toyota’s are “good” or “better” looking.

Sequoiatrader- Just one part of the reason you don’t see many industrial/fleet duty applications for Tundra’s is part availability. There’s already a huge part infrastructure for GM’s and Ford’s. That’s also why you don’t see many Ram’s or Titans used for those applications. Most fleets have yet to be extremely concerned about fuel economy, but reliability and part availability are key.

So another reason why some people may say “heritage” or “name brand”. But when it comes down to fleets and true work trucks…

I never said the Tundra looks like a car, on the contrary I said it was a car masquerading as a truck, not unlike the Titan. I will give you that the Tundra has nice appointments and fast off the line response. Still, for everyday truck use it just doesn’t stack up to the domestics, especially F150 & Silverado.

I live in an area with lots of agriculture & oil applications. You know how many Tundra’s are being used for work applications… very few.

As for the trucks on the side of the road broken down. Since there are more F150’s & Silverados on the road, naturally we would see more of them break from time to time. Take note that most tow trucks are also Fords & Chevys. I guess since the subject of durability was brought forward by you Avalanche, I have to ask, how many F150’s do you suppose ended up in the shop with broken crank-shafts last year compared to Tundra? How many people were trying to load a quad in their Silverado and had the tailgate collapse compared to Tundras? On a percentage basis Tundra will fail miserably in those comparisons.

How can you say that the CREWMAX TUNDRA looks like a car??? Next all Im saying is that from experience that the Tundra has been a real good truck. I know when we pull the boat with my AV is moans and growns, the tundra pulls that thing like nothing. I think it is a really nice truck personally throw on some BBS rims, and a BORLA exahust and you have a sharp looking truck. My .02 cents

Yeah, I really don’t see this helping them TOO too much. I mean, regardless of the amount of awesomeness any non-domestic truck may have, it won’t outsell an F150/Silverado/Ram, simply because of heritage. Heritage Heritage Heritage. This segment of Toyota is one that they really shouldn’t put too much effort in, simply because they can’t win. And it takes a lot for me to say that domestics are better (SOLELY in sales), but in this segment, I feel they stand less of a chance than any domestic.

What? Its ok for Toyota to come at Ford and GM with their “Truck That Changes It All” campaign throwing down the gauntlet with utter and absolute BS and when it is pointed out by fact “We are not going through this again” Horse****. You Toyogasims want to talk truck lets talk……but when the CEO of Toyota comes out publicaly and states that “Ford does not understand trucks…” it is complete arogance whether he was to use Dodge, GM or Ford. Name a topic, I live, breath and supply class 1 to class 8 trucks to commercial users for the last 15 years. At least the boys at Nissan market their truck for what it is and what it was meant to be, nothing wrong with that. The Titan in real world enviroments actually does better than the “truck that changes it all”.

How about sway control as well like Ford and Dodge, What about a factory brake controller with 328 parameters compared to the latest prodigy at 120. Ever do the math. How many full size Tundra’s are on the road compared to Ford Gm Dodge. 1 in 30, 1 in 50 maybe more. The Tundra is a cobbled together piece of crap and it does have its good components but for every good piece there are two WTF components IE Frame, Engine, tailgate and suspension dynamics. Ever wonder why the Sequoia rides on a different frame… as in fully boxed, is it possible that Toyota engineers realized a mistake to late for Tundra but soon enough for Seqouia. Just a thought.

Trailer brakes anyone??? Thats how you stop a 35 foot toyhauler. That tranny is a beast in the tundras. How come I see more chevys, and fords, and dodges on the side of the road than i do toyotas. The f*&^ing thing still has an air pump because of the engines inefficient burn rate and if 165 ftlb of torque at 1500 rpm is what you guys call a beast……well lets just say I will bet no one on here has towed 10,000 lbs in the real world with this thing, give me a GM or Ford 1/2 ton any day. They don’t need smoke and mirrors to sell trucks. Third in sales, first in recalls, worst in TGW index and most consumer complaints on NHTSA. Be very proud Toyogasmatics

A 35 foot toyhauler with a 1/2 ton? What kind of toys do you haul… hot wheels? Technically I suppose you could haul a 35 foot toyhauler with a Geo Metro, stopping that trailer loaded is an altogehter different matter. Which I suspect is no picnic with a 1/2 ton anything. Not to mention the extraordinary strain you are putting on that transmission. But hey, what do I know? I think what I saw in an earlier post summed it up pretty good. Here is my version, if you need a truck that performs like a truck should, buy a Ford or GM. If you like driving a large car that that looks like a truck buy a Tundra.

By the way I have driven every one of the trucks you mentioned. Too bad you fell for the Titan scam.

Has anyone ever drove one of the Toyota Tundra’s well I have and that thing is a beast!!! Or you just going by what you here on the net? We haul a 35 foot toy hauler with ours, and a 21 Gambler bass boat. You would have to have a 2500 to pull the toyhauler. I have a avalanche and you can tell the boat is on the back when we haul it. The tundra tows that thing like its not even there. We have had avys, hemi’s, Silverados, titans, and f-150s so far the tundra is the best so far.

It’s too bad the regular cab is so ugly.

I actually really liked the old Tundra. It was just an honest work truck, while the big players had moved onto more fancier things. But now they’ve possibly made the Tundra TOO large, the frame is too weak and the engines aren’t all to reliable. I’ve also heard about premature transmission problems.

Actually the Platinum is carried over from the Sequoia that Toyota used before Ford. So get your facts strait before acting out. You people haven’t look at this truck much have you. Dodge just matched it’s horse power, and Ford is the only one with more towing capability.

Damn it! You’re kidding!!! My 4-Runner has the 289…this new V8 has small displacement and more HP/torque…totally not fair. They better give me a free engine transplant.

Tundra Platinum? A fully loaded Tundra is already close to $50K…any higher, and that’s Escalade/Sierra Denali territory. I don’t think the people who buy Tundras really look for something like a Platinum package. They should’ve gone with a factory-tuner Tundra that would compete with the Ford Raptor. That would’ve been really cool, especially with the TRD supercharger and lift-kit.

I know that picture is of a base model “work truck”, but man that thing is ugly looking. A base model Ford, Dodge, or GM pickup looks much better than this base model Tundra.
