Toyota willing to help struggling competition?

Toyota president Katsuaki Watanabe expressed willingness last week to form an alliance with troubled automakers, reports Kyodo News. “The possibility exists constantly that a reconfiguration of ties between global automakers will occur since the automotive industry is going through intense competition,” Watanabe told a news conference in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture. “It requires conducting mammoth capital outlays for automakers to innovate their technologies in the fields of the environment, safety and the telecommunications,” he said, “There is the adequate possibility that we will form various types of alliances with others, if an automaker faces difficulties in meeting these needs single-handedly,” he said.

that i’d like very very much.

And it’d give them an excuse to start building proper sports cars again.

speaking from a diplomatic side of myself. there’s currently a “war” so to speak between car manufacturers, and making alliances with dying makers in turn saves automotive herritage from dying… come on, who’d want TVR to die? (which is a bit likely right now) and as for “staying British” or whatever the country, its not about the eingine (in lotus’ case) or whever the part being made in a foreign land. its about the parts working together to make a good car. come on, the Toyota I4 and the Elise body are a killer combo
