Who really cares what they choose. Fact is, Lexus is a great car. Ugly, but a great car. It won't matter to me what they choose. It won't influence me one way or another.

I think the original slogan was the best and it was this that defined the Lexus name. Just don't expect passion and performance from Lexus and everything is fine.

"Passionate pursuit of perfection" is just retarded. Enough with the crappy alliterations already.

Big mistake if it's changed to either of those listed.

"Perfection" provided the image of an end, something absolute, a goal that few, if any, could accomplish. "Potential" is vague, subjective and lacking in a goal of supremacy.

I agree Dr*Manhattan, this change will do no good for Lexus. I personally also liked the original slogan. It does give a sense of insecurity as to where the company is heading. Besides, what difference will changing the slogan make.... its not like consumers are all sitting around analyzing their slogan. It is what it is.

The original slogan was great [The relentless pursuit for perfection]. Then, with the next slogan, there was way too much alliteration that it just sounded ackward [The passionate pursuit of perfection].

McDonald's restaurants changes their slogans every five years or so - (anyone remember "food, folks, and fun" -- UGG!).

That's okay for McDonald's, but not for an automaker. Change it if it's necessary -- but not for the sake of change. It cheapens your brand image, and makes customers insecure about the direction the company is taking.

Cadillac's slogan sucks more the more you hear it. It may play in Peoria but everywhere else it is slightly embarrassing.
Not sure what to make of the Lexus slogans the passionate pursuit of potential is too alliterative. The other slightly meaningless. Lexus should be pursuing passion and character.

The Potential pursuit of passion
The Chase for Character
