Transformers: 18-foot “Bumblebee” towers over Chicago show

02/11/2009, 2:28 AM

By Nick Aziz

Ever wanted to see a “real” Transformer up close and personal? Well, if you plan on visiting the Chicago Auto Show when it opens to the public on Friday, this might be the closest you’ll get. A full-size replica of the Bumblebee Autobot from the Transformers movie series is on display at the show.

Designer and sculptor DeWaldt Hicks, along with mold maker James Rothrock, spent much of Tuesday evening assembling the 18-foot-tall Autobot in the General Motors exhibit. Bumblebee will appear for the first time in public with other new Chevy “characters” from the upcoming Paramount Pictures movie, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”

Autobot or Decepticon, they’d both fall flat against a 90ft HAR from the One Must Fall universe… Jaguar or Pyros would rape their rusty buttholes…!

Bumblebee would be perfect above GM’s area because they’ve been bumbling around for 2 years now.

This is the most dependable and reliable transformer. It is 100x more reliable than any foreign POS transformer. Nobody wants to be seen as a terrorist in a foreign transformer.
Buy American.. Buy Bumblebee.. It is your duty..

wtf, when did the Chicago Auto Show become the new NAIAS? Rather disappointing now that I might be having to go to my second auto show this year.

Anyone notice the yellow Camaro next to it in the 7th pic? Kind of a cool body kit idea, the front bumper has a almost Lambo look to it. Maybe a prelude to a Z28? Nah, I’d be dreaming.

Who is the first to whine about GM using bailout money on the transformer?

It’s called marketing people. They can’t sit on their hands and not create attention and expect to survive. This brings them much needed attention and brings people into the Chevy/GM stores.

Or rip your mother a new anus…? Sounds like more fun, dontcha think? Or do ya do???

oh and to prove a point about Americans, The original title of License to Kill was License Revoked, but Americans didn’t understand what revoked meant so they had to change the title…

Where’s a “report” button when you need one…

Back on topic though, I think the model is cool. Nice marketing stunt, But I wouldn’t expect it to go far in the way of getting people to buy GM.
