Car constructor Leif Tufvesson, who in 2004 won the prestigious “Hotrod of the year” award from Hotrod Magazine, returns at SEMA this week with a completely new car called the Caresto V8 Speedster. Leif previously worked for the Volvo Concept Center, and for 6 years was responsible for the development department of the Swedish sports car manufacturer, Koenig. He has now started to construct and manufacture his own cars.
The latest project is a mid-engine Hotrod powered by a Volvo V8. The car is completely constructed in aluminum and carbon fiber with an advanced sports car chassis fitted with Öhlin shock absorbers. Leif Tufvesson has built and designed the entire car himself, though he has taken advantage of his wide contact network of sub-contractors in terms of paint finish, interior fittings and CAD-milling. Everything else is manufactured and assembled in his workshop in the old brickworks outside Ängelholm in the south of Sweden. Gallery after the jump…

I thought Yamaha supplied the V8 to Volvo for the XC90… Do they have an inhouse V8 aswell? Neat car.

I would imagine that Volvo’s V8s might be heavily based on something from Ford, but that’s just a guess. And, I guess Ford has worked with Yamaha in the past.
That being said, this car looked amazing when I first saw it. Then I saw the interior.
If you’re going to customize the whole freaking car, I would think that you could at least go the extra mile and customize the steering wheel as well. The amount of supposedly custom cars that use stock components like this is absolutely mind-boggling.

Take that top, drive over it, then throw it away—forever. Other than that, it looks great!

Volvo’s V8 is the Yamaha V8 which is the same V8 that was cancelled from the Lincoln MKS project – one and the same.

Robin’s Egg Blue on a hot-rod would get your ass beat in most circles….
Why is Volvo involved in hot-rods? Too many Ford romantics in management??

Correct robins egg blue DOES NOT belong on a roadster AT ALL. And the red brick brown interior doesn’t go with the blue exterior AT ALL Either.. Is he color blind ? nice roadster design but he should have someone other than stevie wonder pick the colors…

uh wow. I think that’s hump-worthy…. I would like for someone to offer him a deal to make a kit out of it… I think an s80-salvaged hotrod would be SWEEET… if not… well, good for him… it’s beautifully executed… c’mon… this is a car he built in his GARAGE…
