There are some pics of this car on Seriouswheels.com The turbo install is a total hack job! One turbo oil drain back has an AN fitting and the other uses a simple hose clamp! The welds are terrible and the turbine housings have the cheapo integrated wastegates!!!! There is even usage of duct tape on the oil scavenge pump for the turbos!!!! I don't know how long that engine will last with 12:1 compression ratio and the decent amount of boost they are putting to it. Definitely not worth the ultra premium price they are asking for.

I think 240mph is a long shot. If the tranny is stock there's no way you would see 240 without running near 10,000 rpms.

Not that it matters really, I still want one.

Cadillac is right there with BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Infiniti. In some places they're behind and in others they're ahead, but they wouldn't be still in competition making profit if they were only competition for Lincoln.

Hold on homeboy...Cadillac ranked 20 spots above BMW in J.D. Power's initial quality list, GM has some of the best manufacturing plants in the world right here in America, and BMWs have been plagued by computer problems that even their own service mechanics can't fix. Also, I'm guessing you're an American since you speak English and don't say rubbish all of the time, so why don't you want your own country to do well?

Why waste all of your money on a car that doesn't look half as good as an STS-V? I drove a 5-series today and hated it. The brake and gas pedal are way too sensitive and almost give you whiplash everytime you press them. The car is bland, overly-complicated, and the seats are as hard as a rock. Although, a tuned M5 is probably is a way different experience than a stock 5-series.

The M5 engine is normally aspirated. At 507bhp and 5.0L it's got 101.4bhp/L.

I realize that the engine in this CMC M5 is turbocharged, but the only point I've been trying to make the whole time is that even before one starts tuning it, it's a very impressive engine.

It has been named the International Engine of the Year for the past 2 years, and that should probably count for something.

100 hp/L is for NORMALY aspirated engine, not for Super -or turbocharged.
A few years ago BMW Individual was offering leather seats that look like made out of snake skin, I believe.

I never said every car with 100bhp/L is a supercar. I was just pointing out that getting there is respectable. And, much like 200mph, it's traditionally been one of the supercar benchmarks. I personally don't think a Bentley Flying Spur qualifies as a supercar, but it still does 200mph. And that's still very fast.

However, speaking of marketing ploys, I'm going to venture my opinion that the "$100,000 interior" is a hugely inflated number. The materials to do it were probably purchased at (or possibly below) whatever market value happened to be at the time. I suspect it was probably considerably less than half the $100,000 price tag. And the rest of the cost is made up of the labour. Unless there's a jewel-encrusted centre console with solid gold cupholders, there's no way the price tag is genuinely justifiable.

And I do have a soft spot for croc skin, but "Fully aniline dyed Florida Crocodile in black" means about as much to me as the "Rich Corinthian Leather" on the Cordoba's advertised by Ricardo Montalban.

Once you breach 100bhp/L you are in supercar territory? I like how my BMW colleagues have been brain washed by the Bavarian Marketeer Works. If that's the case than the Pontiac Solstice is more of a super car than the M5/6, ditto the Subaru WRX, ditto the Mitsubishi Evo. All BrainMotor-Washed brothers repeat after me: "HP/L is a marketing gimmick. The LS7 has HP/lb greater than 1, and no BMW engine can claim that, not even the M6 motor. And yes, HP/lb is as arbitrary and dumb ratio as HP/L."

This is way off topic, but i've been reading about the Melling Hellcat online. It says it can do 275, but hardly looks aerodynamic enough to do it. Does anyone know any track stats about it in terms of its top speed as of yet?

its a cool sleeper but for $350k... id rather buy a gallardo and get the turbo upgrade that was put out for that. AWD traction and it would still be $100k less than this M5.

^ funny thing you should say that. In LA you almost never see an M5 with stock wheels. haha. I almost agree though, I think I like the interior but I don't care for the wheels too much.

The general rule is once you hit the 100bhp/L mark you're in supercar territory. So 810 from 5.0L V10 isn't bad at all... certainly better than 500 from and 8.3L V10.

but anyway, I wanted to know more about this car, and found this:

I'd rather hear about a tuner getting 810 hp out of a smaller engine. I mean its not all that impressive getting 810 hp into an M5.. well it is impressive, but not too hard if you think about it. I'd like to see an 810 hp G35 coupe w/ AWD.

shhhhhhhh, dont saying the bugatti had to bolt not 1 but 2 w8`s together and add 4 turbos, so in comparison a v10 with 2 turbos and 810 hp isnt too bad. im sure the bugatti can still be "tuned" though.

the new gtr will be there really fast, im sure there is a long line of tuners wauting for that one.

The comparison between this and the Brabus SL is something I was thinking about, but a couple possible differences cross my mind.

Is this tuned for torque or power? Because the Merc engine is primarily tuned for low-end torque (I mean, the stock version, last I checked, has more torque than any pick-up truck), and that's what makes it so difficult to handle. I get the impression that once you're underway (in a straight line) at more than 120mph the car behaves fairly well. And the M5, though it has 500bhp, has "only" got 383 lb-ft of torque in stock form. So if they haven't dialed it up to an excessive extent then it might not suffer from the same problems as the Brabus.

Also, on the stock M5, you can pick whether you want the full 500 horsepower or a slightly more modest 400. So if that system is still in place (possibly expanded to offer 400, 500, and 810 settings?) the driver could, at the very least, force the car to be drivable.

As for the rear-mounted turbos, i can't really speak to how the system works, but the reasoning behind it might have something to do with the custom intercooler. If the compressed air has to travel further to get into the engine there's potentially more of an opportunity to bleed the heat out it. Like, if the tube along the passenger side was liquid-cooled or something. Also, it's entirely possible that there just wasn't any more room for them under the hood.

But if the turbos were where the silencers "once were," does that mean the car doesn't have silencers anymore? Because if it sounds like a race car it's hardly a sleeper is it? And I think that's a good chunk of the car's appeal.

Even still, as long it doesn't suffer from Brabusitis, I think it's wicked awesome. Especially with the croc skin.

it dont look nicer should have been clearer, i think the s7 is the best looking car ever, really meant its a nice luxury car. just wanted to make the price/performance comparison. 240mph is seriously fast for a 4 door. i dont even have 3 friends worth bringing along so the s7 is perfect, i hate the veyron looks wise.
