fyi, The engine is built by toyota and yamaha and is one of the highest hp/per liter engine mass produced in the world, it revs to 8600 rpm, I have on and use it one the track every now and then and it has been very reliable and an amazing product, the only better 4 cylinders out there are the hondas which are only a little better in hp/ltr.

#6 Mike, I wish I could answer that, but I dont PERSONALLY know of many cars running this kind of power. I Have seen a couple supercharged celicas with similar figures, but they havent been around long enough for me to say that its completely reliable. No problems thus far though. The old 1.6 4AGE (20valve version) could do 375whp turbocharged, but that was a pretty hardy engine (that could also do 250hp NA - havent seen any 2ZZ that do more than 230) with an Iron block etc. Guess we will have to wait and see.

I'm aware that this engine is a Toyota,Zombie. The 1.8 liter 2-zz-ge is made by Yamaha. In celicas have had oil sludging and varnish problems due to poor crankcase ventilation.Turbo versions have been known to throw rods and bearings, like i said at 400 h.p. its days are numbered.

The Ariel Atom is 0-100-0 in 10.88 and 0-60 in 2.91 seconds. Quicker still is Tiger Z100WR which is 0-60 in 2.9 seconds it uses Twin GSXR 1000cc Suzuki engines and produces 600bhp in a 1200lb car. About $60k

i think that, done correctly, a 1.8 toyota engine will be reliable enough to handle the power for some time, but if taken on enough track days it WILL die a young death. and yes i did notice that the weight was off JUST A LITTLE. and the veyron weighs twice as much as the elise modified or otherwise, and was meant as a top speed kinda thing, not a dragster, even though it would KILL. it was really much more of an engineering marvel.

NO one pointed out that an elise weighs WAY less than 2500 lbs? posers. Unless that's what the modified car weighs, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. A/c and Airbags and side impact beams add weight, but not that much weight. that's gotta be the GVWR or something...

and #1 the bugatti does a sub 3 second 0-100km/h in what 2.5 seconds? well maybe the lotus does it in 2.4 seconds or 2.3 seconds who knows. it seems like this car was just built, and i know a dude with an elise and uses it every day (unlike others) he loves it but when he goes on business trips in it he complains a lot, and he complains about how hard it is to get in and out. i dont think hes had any reliability problems with it cause if he has he would have told me heh.

I too read that engine was junk, you would think running at those boost levels to get 400 h.p. that engines days are numbered. Little off topic new esprit is supposed to have BMW V-8 from the old M-5.

hmm, not to sound skeptical, but I have heard numerous horror stories about the 1.8 and dismal reliability.

Dre, I do not even pretend to know enough about the import 4 bangers, Is 400hp reasonable and reliable from a 1.9L former celica engine?

Whats up with the pricing scheme? The site says the 275R package is $7200, while the '380R' (400 according to the site) is $11,000 more. Whats up left lane?

And its not an engine swap, the engine is stroked to 1.9L (which I assume is closer to 2.0L as there are already kits available in japan for the 2ZZ that does this)

how is an aftermarket company performing an engine swap not a "real" tuner company?

The Kappa platform is a "sports car" platform as well... but if you are trying to compare a $20,000 roadster to a $45,000 roadster, there will be some descrepencies.
