A retired San Antonio Police Department captain was charged with intoxication manslaughter Monday after his BMW ran off the road and killed a pedestrian, authorities said. The pedestrian, whom investigators have not identified, was a man in his 30s. Unfamiliar with the neighborhood, Robinson said, he was driving “a little too fast” and only at the last moment saw a curve in the road, the report stated. This news comes only days after much outrage in Canada over the death of Irene Nicholson, 55, who was run down by a supercharged black Corvette. The driver of the Corvette, who had accelerated rapidly, lost control of his high-powered car, which jumped the curb. The car, travelling between 60 km-h and 80 km-h, ploughed down Nicholson, who was on the sidewalk taking her regular after-supper walk through her neighbourhood.
