Two Indian carmakers are apparently showing a lot of interest in buying Land Rover and Jaguar from Ford . Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra are expected to appoint investment bankers to provide advice on a possible purchase of Ford’s two remaining British brands.
Tata Motors, India’s third largest automaker, has long been rumored to be interested in Land Rover and Jaguar. Mahindra & Mahindra has recently shown interest in joining the bidding, although a report in the Financial Times is the first printed evidence of the group’s motives.
Both manufacturers are heavily involved in the commercial vehicle sector in India. Tata has sold cars in Europe, among other places, although their lineup does not extend beyond rugged, inexpensive vehicles. Mahindra & Mahindra primarily produces four-wheel drive vehicles for the Indian consumer market.
