1 billion dollar profits don’t help the case, but, what everyone forgets is that the blue oval is mortgaged.
I say fire them all and hire the GM workers that lost their jobs that would be more than happy to work there….

It almost seems like the UAW is trying to force Ford into a bad situation and get the same deal they got with GM and Chrysler. Hopefully they will be smarter and if needed be stay away from government’s money.

The UAW has always stood behind “pattern bargaining” and now that the tems arn’t great, they don’t care about fairness. Ford is learning that its very easy to produce quality vehicles in Mexico. The labor is cheap and they won’t strike. I don’t think the current Ford UAW workers give a crap about future product being built in the US, and thats why the UAW management was for the concessions…more union members coming. Its all about turning a profit in a very demanding market. The UAW model is broken and cannot be sustained going forward. Look at Boeing’s newest decision (extra 787 plant) to go to S.C. instead of Seattle Washington where the big Boeing Aerospace union lives and breathes. NO union spoke loud and clear here.

To put it simply. Unions are more trouble than they are worth sometime. Same here in Australia. Demanding too much for very little in return and then complain when jobs are lost and shipped overseas where the labor is cheap. Wake up to yourselves before you are out of a job and Ford is gone forever. UNIONS = SELFISH.

Vote down any equalizing concession and keep your high pay. If Ford gets forced into bankruptcy the government takes over and you keep your high pay. Win-win for the union. Not so good for investors.

Could Ford completely shut down North American assembly operations and continue production in Canada, Mexico and Europe? Ford is already importing vehicles, could they import all vehicles and completely rid themselves of the UAW?

Dear Ford,

Are you sick of the UAW? I thought so. Although, I spent much of the past summer looking for the best
American made vehicle I could find that met my requirements (I bought a Ford Escape, which I’m very happy with), I won’t be buying any more UAW built vehicles because of their stupidity in turning down this contract.

If you want me to buy your vehicles in the future, please build them in Mexico, or anywhere else where you don’t have to deal with the UAW. People in Mexico actually WANT jobs – so I’m told. The UAW apparently just wants welfare. I’m not helping them with that.

For too long the automakers overbuilt keeping the UAW workers going. Now it is time for UAW workers take a haircut like the rest of us.

This just in…

The Canadian Auto Workers union has reached a cost cutting deal with Ford Canada that will give the company lower operating costs and guarantee two new vehicle programs for the automaker’s major Canadian assembly plant just west of Toronto.

The union had agreed to give the automaker the same concessions it gave General Motors and Chrysler in negotiations earlier this year, including cuts to some benefits and time off.

and its sh!t like this that will ultimately keep the GM and Ford from being world powers in the auto industry. Because the people who build the vehicles want sooo much money the bean counters are forced to cut other places–and how suffers for it?? the consumers, the company, and eventually the American public because we are forced to foot the bill for crap like this. It really pisses me off because these UAW people cant see the forest from the trees.

So much for momentum. I get that the UAW doesn’t want to start giving in until they have to, but it seems that maybe, right now… they have to. Almost everyone I know (myself included) is living on less than they’re used to,having taken pay cuts in the last couple years.

Certainly, I don’t know all the details, but I hope the UAW doesn’t see the day they regret their stubbornness.

Why are auto unions so greedy in a recession? Sure the auto execs made crappy model choices but still need cheap labor to go against Korean and Chinese cars during recession.
