Well it sounds to me you just have disdain for those higher than you. The higher up the ladder you go, the higher the paychecks. That’s the way it is, as it should be. Having a well educated person capable of 6-figure salaries work in a factory does not make sense. That’s a waste of talent. And if you are one of those lever pullers and button pushers, why don’t you get an education and make yourself more marketable so you don’t have to work in a factory anymore? The problem is, many people that work in thse factories do not want to get an education. If this is not you, then don’t take offense to this. But if you are not willing to better yourself and make yourself more appealing to an employer, you deserve what you get. It’s not someone else’s responsibility to make sure you earn enough for a big screen tv and three cars just because you feel you deserve it. Anyone without an education should be thankful they have a job in the first place. Those with an education should be thankful that there are others who do not aspire for more.

DialM – Not at all. But why not have competitive wages? These arguments often see two extremes. I’m advocating something in the middle where the wages are competitive. What is that? Don’t know, but let the local economy decide. All in all, people need to be responsible for themselves. Others should not be responsible for them. This proposed paycut has come as a result of decades of abuse to the union system. And I agree, fat cats at the top need to cut the shit as well. Why is it that no one ever talks about the executive perks and big fat “no matter what” bonuses the people at the top get? It’s always the guy who actually does the work who gets blamed. I once read that an engineer that had been with the company for 20 years was getting about $20 – $25 dollars an hour to do his job, yet now he’s supposed to take a pay cut. Now this guy went to college and earned a degree so why should he take it up the ass? Isn’t that the reason people go to college so they can get a better paying job??? According to some of you the answer is no, give them all minimum wage, they don’t deserve anything more.

Labor unions don’t have a power they had decades ago and don’t have a lot of public sympathy, especially on this board.
For instance the job bank programs have turned into a travesty. Also, UAW seems to think it’s membership should be immune to increased health care costs. If I were a member, I would not be happy with current leadership, they shoud be focusing on saving American jobs, even if that means taking concessions. No wonder so many took the buyout.

400hundredhundredhundredhorseSS – So well spoken and polite. You must be the shop steward! Jealousy is not exactly it. What we do not enjoy is knowing that $4000 of that sticker price on an American vehicle goes directly to employee health care, pensions, and absurdly high wages. It’s factory work! I’d rather pay less for a car and not buy into a social program.
All insults aside, now might be a time to go to college. Get an education. Make yourself marketable. You’ll be able to make $30/hr without the help of a union. Trust me, it’s a great feeling. Honestly, what has a union done for you besides bring your job to the brink of dismissal? I mean, Delphi is going bankrupt and the UAW is figuring out how to cripple it permanantly? Brilliant. Ya know, the guys sitting in those top offices in white shirts at Delphi aren’t the only ones making millions. Your unions reps are doing the same, off your paychecks.

Didn’t you read today how THREE to FIVE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS could be saved by outsourcing janitorial services alone?!?!?!? Do you seriously believe the mantra you spew? I don’t think you can get much stupider than these guys. They are just digging their own grave and the grave of potentially hundreds of thousands if not millions of people by striking, not to mention the fact that one of the greatest auto makers in history will go down because they refuse to take pay cuts. GM is probably paying the union well over $15 per person per hour more then they are getting paid and the corporate heads are making millions ( right after typing this, I’m going on the UAW website to see if they have the numbers).
