Too funny. LamborghiniZ and Hal, what should Bush have done to be succussful? You and the other libs are so critical, surely you must have the answer to what he SHOULD be doing. What is the optimal tax rate? Currently I get roughly 42% takeb out of my paycheck. How much more should I be comfortable with the government taking? Maybe I should be comfortable with 75% and just be happy with what they leave me. What should all of these tax dollars be spent on? The funny thing is, I bet you both sit down with your tax rep just like the rest of us do looking for deductions. Maybe you should set an example and donate a portion of your paycheck that's equal to what your high tax rate would be. Set the example. The problem is this: Definition of a liberal, one who sees a problem, but whose solution to the problem is telling others how to solve it.

Sarbanes_Oxley act of 2002 is hardly weakening Business regulations by the way.

Personally, I don't think there is anything he could do to make you happy. He's a conservative, and he's put us at war. You libs will despise him no matter what.

you're judging gwb by the wrong standard lambo.
Bush has cut taxes, weakened worker protections, weakened business and environmental regulation.
He has been a fantastic success for the people who fund his campaigns.

Renton, he is a President that has a 30 something % approval rating, one who didn't even get voted into office in 2000 by the people, and is overall a failure at everything he's done while in office. You cannot present me with an argument that is convincing that displays Bush as a success. Yes he is president, but since when does that make someone a success at what they do?

No, I think they all have master's degrees in manufacturing. There are many people that say, "When I grow up, i want to work in a factory."

Maybe I should clarify...machine operators.

Its a directors meeting not a shareholder meeting.

Ford and GM each have to support about 500,000 pensioners/retirees - that is their major problem at the moment. That is the issue and the fact. I am not a big fan of unions either but blaming them for every problem won't wash.

What "blind hatred"? I don't think there's any hate in my comment above - just fact. Maybe I am a little cynical but at least I am not blindly partisan.

I never mentioned Rove but he is a political strategist - it's his job to be "behind things" - like getting republicans elected. What do you think his job is? Or do you think Democrats are the only ones that are dishonest and spin and the GOP tells it like it is.

Have you every been inside a car factory Piablo? Do you really think the people who build cars are uneducated?

Hal... it is speculation until after today's shareholder meeting, not the elections.

But, I bet Rove is behind it all, right?

what will it take for you to see the issues and facts, not just the blind hatred of a man whos political beliefs differ from yours?

I believe the President should be 'hands off' mostly on these issues. Let the market make the decisions as much as is practical. I like to see the big 3 do well, but I want them to earn it with good products, not with government intervention, unless it was to outlaw the UAW of course. :-)

....and if you think the UAW is bad: the black clouds are the "Public Service" unions that purport to run our government. At least the UAW has to do 'something'.

Its true. The GOP doesn't give a damn about MI jobs or UAW jobs. New non-union plants in the (Republican) South are replacing the jobs of Democrat supporting union members. Its win/win for the GOP and the Democrats don't much care either about blue collar workers with unfashionable views.

The major problem for the Big Three isn't the cost of their current workers its their huge amount of ex-employee pensioners. Those pensioners are people who worked hard for years generating massive profits for shareholders. Those pensioners are the people who are gonna get cut loose and screwed. They are not the people who made short sighted decisions to maximise profits at the expense of future investment and rewarded themselves handsomely for failing.

Do you think when George Bush called Bill Ford the other day they discussed anything other then managing news about cutbacks before the election? Thats why the story a few down "Ford to Accelerate Job Cuts" is "speculation about our plans." You'll get the offical announcement after the election along with the "Big Three Meet" where nothing useful is announced.

You can expect the White House to turn the heat up on Iran again too after the election and an increase in gas prices to reflect that. Gotta love Politics.

LamborghiniZ - - Bush is a failure "in life"?

He is the President of the United States of America.

What does it take in your family; not to be a failure?

Screw the UAW. They have dug their own grave. If they were good they would have found a way to improve their employer's profits

Reuters has zero "cred". Photoshopping news can throw away 100 years of meritorious service in a second.

Gettelfinger also said it was "ludicrous" that Bush had no time for the car industry but managed to find the time to tap Clay Aiken to serve on the President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities.

but but but THAT'S WHAT'S IMPORTANT to the rubes!

just goes to show we have ZERO energy and manufacturing policy in this country under the current "leadership."

now, more than ever, we need some kind of change. sadly, i don't see it coming from Dems, either. we need an Apollo-like program toward energy independence.

it can happen, friends. and not just by wishing on a star.
