Ron Gettelfinger has served as the president of the United Auto Workers union since 2002, but the 45-year union veteran says he will not seek re-election in 2010. Reports surfaced earlier this month that Gettelfinger would seek a third term, but the UAW president will call it quits after his second term concludes.
Gettelfinger is likely burned out after his near-decade tenure as the UAW head – especially after the most recent round of government imposed concessions – but the Indiana University Southeast graduate says his decision is solely based on UAW policy. Per UAW regulations, officers must retire when they turn 65. During the UAW’s next convention in 2010, Gettelfinger will be 65 years old, turning 66 just two months later.

“The minute that’s over, I’m done,†Gettelfinger told Paul W. Smith from WJR-AM.
