^^^ My B.S game? And what is with the maintenance comment? Maint has nothing to do with NEW vehicle launches and PLC programs, that’s the engineers job. Maint works on the crappy old lines that have been around and there isn’t any IMPROVEMENTS to be made. They fix a broke bolt or a tool, they don’t fix the PART your making or the PROGRAMS needed to make all that machines work that makes that part. If you understand this, then there is no explanation needed, if you don’t then no explanation is possible. I was feeling sypmathetic for you line workers facing layoffs and all, but after the attitude I’ve seen on here and the other LLN’s message boards, I know exactly why they are laying your arrogant @$$’s off. So, I’m a little confused here. American Axle is offering to pay their workers $20 to $30 an hr, and the UAW is asking for around $40 to $50. More or less, I’m concerned why American Axle doesn’t simply fire the UAW workers who don’t want to work for $20 to $30 dollars an hour, which is really good I’d say personally. Is it because of some discrimination law, the whole workforce is unionized in the immediate area, or what?

What even brings up a bigger question though, is what’s running through the heads of the UAW? Obviously they are there to protect the worker, but it’s pretty obvious that from every corner of the globe, they’ve been under criticism.

Ok, Jabari, you obviously don’t have enough brain cells to scroll up and read the REST of my posts. I WORKED WITH ASSEMBLY WORKERS! Every 5 min they call me on the radio to fix something they fuck up. They stand in fron of their cells, and do repetitive work all day. It is NOT a 50K a year job! If thats what you get, well then I’m still happy for you and I hope you buy AMERICAN products with your pay. Face it, Firemen, Cops, Paramedics, Teachers are all hardworking people that get no recognition for their work, they just do it. You aren’t sweating your ass off or killing yourself to work, if you are, then I will be given a project to make YOUR work easier! And when I was an automotive engineer I didn’t have time to stand around and look at frames, unless I wanted to get home at 2AM in the morning. Don’t try and act like your something your not, face it, the UAW are a bunch of pains in the asses and YOU would be better with out them. But, I guess you would rather make 50K a year for the next 5 years than 40K a year for the next 30 years. Sounds like a plan!

Yes, the workers make the part, but the part would never have been without engineers designing, testing, and BUILDING the prototypes. And I didn’t sign up for 16 hours a day, that’s why I found new job. Automotive is the worst industry to work in. And it was a JAP company, they live to work, we work to live, thats the difference. I don’t like foreign shit, I but US when I can. But, I can see why people want to send work oversea’s when people who mastly stand around ALL day want 50K a year! I’m not saying I agree with greedy CEO’s and all that, that’s another point, let’s stick to the greedy ass UAW. Why would I WANT Americans to lose their jobs? It’s funny how 400HorseSS says he works sooooooo hard at his assembly line job but he finds time at all times of the day, during any day of the week to get on here and post. I graduated college in 2005, I started working as an engineer in a manufacturing company that supplied front and rear subframes for Nissan. The line workers DON’T DO SHIT. All they do is take a few parts out of a basket, throw them on a jig, then hit a button and let the welding robots that I PROGRAMMED, using the PLC logic that I WROTE, using the jig to build the part that I DESIGNED AND TESTED NIGHT AFTER NIGHT while they were asleep in their beds at 1AM in the morning and I was working a 16 hr shift to meet these ridiculous auto companies deadlines AND making much less than $30 an hour. Give me a break, 50K a year to put a few parts on and hit a button??? Thank God I got my year of experience in and I have a new engineering job where I don’t have to listen to stupid complaints and comments from these “assembly” workers and make better money. And as for Frylock 350, what kind of dumbass rebuilds an engine and it blows up on the first start? It isn’t hard to build a car, as long as you have the TIME, MONEY and TOOLS, which these so called line workers have time, since it’s their job, the money is supplied by the company, and the tools are already programmed to do the hard shit. Come on, it’s not like they’re doing something SKILLED like painting and body work. I’ve said enough, now go bitch about my post.

injunraiv: indeed. You know, as an outsider I can see that this is a systematic problem that goes much deeper than just the Domestic car market. This outsourcing bullsh!t is bleeding the economy dry and f*ckers like the UAW are at least partly responsible. They have an all-or-nothing mentality, but this is a dangerous sentiment as it could mean everyone will be out of a job sooner or later. Something has got to be done about these issues but apparently there are too many incompetents in Washington unable/unwilling to move a muscle to help the industry.

I sincerely hope, for America’s sake, that the next administration will do, whatever it takes, to right these wrongs and bring those lost jobs back where they belong.

Luckily I don’t have a boss and I don’t have to petition anyone for greater pay, I charge whatever I think is medically/ethically reasonable for the open market.

I’m not sure why the UAW turned out mediation from a US judge. Last time I checked, judges generally are impartial and understand the law better than any one of us. While striking is a right held by unions (provided they are legal), it has to be carefully used … especially in this day and age of outsourcing.

While I have very strong viewpoints of unions, I think they are necessary to protect the ‘little guy’. In this case, this is where things become very murky. Neither side is going to get all the concessions they are demanding — a compromise has to be made. Right now, GM is losing billions by the delays in production due to this strike. GM (and the other domestics) are hurting. Wouldn’t the union be ‘smart’ and find a happy medium somewhere now? A lot of bad blood will remain after this strike is over … but more importantly, 1000s of jobs are on the line here. It would be awful if a big chunk of the jobs went elsewhere putting more people out of work and making the economy that much worse off …
