Random Jerk and 400horseSS need to just calm down. You two represent the two extremes. I would not just label autoworker as “unskilled.” They still have to be trained. At the same token, college is not “overrated” either. It’s often needed depending on the types of jobs one desire. College degree also afford greater mobility, but it’s not everybody’s cup of tea.

And the amount of money one makes is not the best indicator of success. What good is money if you can’t enjoy life? Job satisfaction has to be factored in and it is different for everyone, auto-worker and pencil pusher alike.

It’s not jealusy, it’s a friendly warning.

You have, maybe 18 months before you are offered a pay cut, a buyout package, or just a simple “goodbye”.

I say that as someone responsible for cutting costs, and who has already outsourced more American jobs than I’d care to admit. They will be comming back with the $ so weak, but the days of paying assembly workers a “decent” wage are over. Why should GM pay you $28/hr when they can do the same job in mexico for $8/day?

Granted, I work for the Japanese, not GM, but the math is identical. Get your kids in college, whatever it takes.

YOU prove now that the Focus is outselling the Cobalt by 100,000 units. My numbers are off of GM and Ford media sites.

According to the same sites, the Focus has NEVER outsold the Cavalier or Cobalt for their respective model years. Not one year.

You know your dealing with unskilled labor when they don’t know the difference between “skilled” and “unskilled”. If you were “skilled” you wouldn’t need a union to afford tits. I’m not jealous, I’m not hating, whatever you got good for you. My point is your situation is a relic of the past, you know it as well as I. After your done paying off the loan on your tits you should save your money to send your kids to college, they aren’t going to be able to afford tits working on an assembly line.

$14 dollars isn’t a living wage, your right. But thats what your worth and a room full of co-workers making that $14 proves it. I’d be nervous, if your employer folds up your tits are going to get repossessed.

The EDGE is dominating the CUV market? Hm…is that the 7+ seat CUV market or the 5-seat? The Edge isn’t dominating anything. It’s selling well. But the Saturn Vue and Chevy Equinox EACH aren’t far behind.

In case you haven’t been paying attention, the Traverse is in the full-size 3-row CUV market, where GM has been dominating since last year…you know…the market your Freestyle/Taurus X hasn’t been selling in. Now the Edge does look to be a nice vehicle. But will it break the 4-model CUV onslaught from GM? Highly unlikely.

Well I get some of your points, but the reason they are paying $10 is because they figured they could get away with it and make more profit. Columbia isn’t exactly flurishing with jobs that pay well. A lot of people there have 40 minute drives back and forth and mouths to feed and your gonna tell me they don’t deserve more. You should see how fast those people have to move to get 50 seats in an hour done. It’s no picnic. I think football practice was easier honestly. If the sister plants were being paid 10 as well then maybe I wouldn’t have an arguement,but when they are making at least 14 and our plant supposedly is so important then wtf? If production doesn’t start until Sept., then GM should source the seats elsewhere. Just buy the tooling from the troublemakers, and move it to Mexico or wherever. Good god, will the UAW ever learn? sorry to hear your plight “underpaid” but I have to agree with the others, if you don’t like your $10 job, quit. Go work at Home Depot, whatever. When I don’t like my job I quit and find another one. If there is a whole factory of people working at $10 an hour then $10 an hour must be the right price. If it wasn’t then those people would find another job just as I would. It’s more likely the guys making $17 an hour are overpaid.

Not getting enough time time take a shit? Working environment not up to code? I suggest you take that up with the state labor board, they will assist/protect you without membership dues (other than taxes).

Well I am worker at JCI who participated in the strike and u can give all the opinions you wnat against the strike, but it is necessary.We are highly under paid there considering what they are expecting from us. the cost of living getting higher as well as gas prices and 10 dollars an hour will not get it done. There is a JCI plant les than 50 miles away from there that pays their employees 7 dollars more just for the foam to the seats and we do the seats and consoles. Management treats the employees like dogs because they have the power. There were no fans in there for a long time in this Tennessee heat, 10 minute bathroom breaks with only a few bathroom stalls avilable is joke. No time off. The benefits are a joke. You just have to be there to understand. I usually say I’ve worked harder for less, but in this case I haven’t. How is our top out pay after 2 years below the starting pay of another JCI making the same thing? Something is just not right and We will fight until managment figures out they can’t build them seats without us.

We do need the Traverse. We don’t need the Outlook, or the Saturn division at all, for that matter.

The Traverse will be the lowest-priced Lambda. It’s already been praised as the best of the group, and the Chevrolet dealer body needs to give customers a place to go when they trade in their Tahoes and Suburbans.
