I’ve never seen such a group of people hell-bent on rather having nothing than something… it almost seems they’d rather have no GM at all than make any concessions – almost when a kid breaks a toy rather than share it with others… it’s the, “If I can’t have it, nobody will” mentality.

Every time contract talks come around, I’ve always said the same thing… GM shouldn’t even come to the table – they should throw their offer out there and say “Take it or leave it.” There was a time when unions had a lot of public support, but not anymore… and it all comes down to the fact that the UAW members act as if they have this sense of entitlement… when in fact, they’re not entitled to shit – not in this day and age… not in the current economy.

Take it or leave it… and feel lucky there’s even something being offered to take! If you don’t like the offer, there are plenty of folks out there who gladly will. Whether any UAW members like to hear it or not… they’re all vastly overpaid for what they do. $28/hr?? Does that include the ridiculous amount of benefits union workers receive? I’m thinking not… even if there were no benefits given, you all are in the same tax bracket as me… which means on $28/hr the least any of you are clearing (for the single, no dependents of you) is about $42,000 a year – NET! Then with your benefits package, you all are making a whole hell of a lot more than that… and it’s ridiculous.

“Oh… but of course we’re going to fight to not have our wages slashed… how will we continue to live the lifestyle which we’re accustomed!?!” You’re wages will be slashed to reflect the job which you do and will fall more into line with other manufacturing/factory jobs… If you can’t continue the life which you’re accustomed, you’ll either have to change your lifestyle or get a second job… plenty of others do it – you’ll survive. Just because you’ve always been paid something in the past, doesn’t mean you deserve to be paid the same in the future… but the worst part is that none of them/you are even content with the same… you always want MORE! UAW members are already overpaid for what they do and all they want is more… Maybe if you spent as much time actually working as you all do bitching, moaning, striking, and taking exorbitant amounts of sick/personal/vacation days… then maybe – just maybe you all might deserve $28/hr without benefits.

But it’s okay… it’s not going to matter that soon anyway because they’re all going to end up screwing themselves anyway. Eventually GM (and the rest of Detroit… personally, I think it’s going to be Chrysler who does so first) isn’t going to play ball anymore and they’ll come to the realization that it will be more beneficial to the company to simply fire every UAW member, shut down for 6-12 months, start a massive hiring campaign, and replace the entire lot. THEN… if current UAW members are really lucky, GM might offer each one of them their jobs back but as non-union employees.

And it will all be good riddance when it happens…

‘horsey’, you should think it is nice because everyone agrees that it’s just a matter of time, fighting or not, that your wage will be a thing of the past. Just like US supremacy.

A union is only useful if it is of actual benefit to the employer and employee. I don’t see them benefiting either.
