Nissan's Fred Diaz joints Mitsubishi

Fred Diaz (whose resume includes positions at Ram and Nissan's truck division) has been named general manager in charge of performance optimization for Mitsubishi. He will move from Nashville, Tennessee, to Mitsubishi's headquarters in Tokyo.

Aston Martin moves into real estate business

Aston Martin is building a 66-story apartment tower in downtown Miami, Florida. The British brand sees its first real estate project in the United States as a way to boost its brand image. Automotive News has learned the facility will be completed in 2021. It will boast 391 condos priced between $600,000 and $50 million. The sail-shaped building will feature a carbon fiber reception desk, a cinema, an art gallery, and access to a yacht marina.

F1: the rankings after the USA

Many believed AMG's Lewis Hamilton would secure the championship after this weekend's race; he didn't, but he's closer than ever with 331 points. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel is presently in a distant second with 265 points, followed by AMG's Valtteri Bottas with 244 points. The battle for the constructor's championship is over. Mercedes-AMG won again with 575 points, followed by Ferrari (428 points) and Red Bull (315 points).

Porsche goes back to the basics with 911 Carrera T

Porsche's newest 911 variant goes back to the model's roots with a relatively basic interior and performance upgrades. Named Carrera T, it's 44 pounds lighter than the Carrera it's based on, and its turbocharged flat-six offers a little bit more torque. Pricing starts at $102,000.

Tesla planning factory in Shanghai area

Tesla has confirmed it's holding discussions with the government of Shanghai, China, about building a factory in the city's outskirts, according to Automotive News. The trade journal reports Tesla will strike a deal with officials by the end of the year.

England to make EV charging stations mandatory

England is pushing the industry towards electric vehicles by making charging stations mandatory on highway rest stops, and at all large gas stations. The bill will double the nation's charging station count, which currently stands at 11,500, according to Autocar.

F1: Hamilton wins US Grand Prix

Mercedes-AMG's Lewis Hamilton won this year's United States Grand Prix. Second place went to Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, while Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen finished third.

Ford showing custom Mustangs at SEMA

Ford's SEMA stand will include at least seven custom-designed Mustangs built by tuners like MAD Industries, Roush, Tucci Hot Rods, and Air Design, among others. Some are merely show cars built to turn heads, while others will eventually spawn limited-edition models and aftermarket body kits.

Kalashnikov shows electric motorcycle

Known for automatic weapons, Kalashnikov is branching out into the burgeoning electric motorcycle segment. Website Rideapart reports the bike will be used by Moscow's police department next year during the soccer world cup.
