Hi Dan - remember that 30K is the UK price including all taxes for the Javan R1. The actual price is 25K so work it out in USD - its not 60K US. Forget an MX5, This is essentially a race car and is outrageous!! The Americans have received the Ariel Atom with their pocket books and look at the price of that - the Javan R1 has similar performance and is a real sports car with real bodywork....

I will be happy to have it here. price is a bit much though. They'll need good marketing to sell any in the US. We love our vettes, and at 60k, people will be cross-shopping vettes of all types and saying things like "where's the trunk?" 1400 lbs is amazing. I drove my gf's mx5 all last week and it felt as light as anything could ever be, but that's still ~2300 lbs ! I can understand an elise being ~2000 lbs what with it's all aluminum construction, but to be so close to a caterham while having a full body is hard to even believe! I hope marlin.co.uk and javan controversy increases awareness of both cars.

Looks a little bit “frogy face” from the front, but still it is quite cute.

Yup and who came up with those seats who look like some ultra modern IKEA kitchen stool from the future or like a seat in Volvo 7700 bus (and all other buses from his category) with ultra uncomfortable seats, which cause some extreme pain in you but and whole spine, when going through some road bumps, that normally would be harmless in some other NORMAL means of transportation.

MKBruin-- I think the high rev/ high compression are better engines for track/race use. That is why the GT3 is more track oriented than 'the turbo' . The turbo is the better street car. When you are trackin these cars your are living at the top of the tach. Honda's high performance little fours make a ton of juice up there.

Granted, a car of this type with the Subaru STi motor would be interesting.

Someone will do that soon, hopefully.

Keep in mind MKBruin that not all companies will sell their engines to just anyone. Honda, GM, Ford, & Toyota are the 4 primary engine suppliers for these kinds of companies. If Javan wanted a certain feel for this vehicle (hi-revving, light weight, etc) then the Honda powerplant sounds like the best choice.

I don't understand why these lightweight roadsters keep using engines that are only potent if you flog the s*$t out of them. When peak HP is reached above 6k rpm, or really starts co come on over 4k when the vvt kicks in, how much useable power is there?

I think these would be better suited with a turbo'd engine, such as the boxer from the wrx, 4 from the evo, srt4, etc. Much more power at a much lower rpm.

Hmm the front and the rear tail lights remind me of a slightly older TVR or Spyker.
Sounds like Lotus has a very serious competitor as long as it is priced right.

Nice design. The front reminds me of a Spyker. I know this roadster isn't meant for luxury, but those seats, however, look like they are made of aluminum which would be extremely uncomfortable. :)
