I love roundabouts

they work perfectly
The United States lack roundabouts here and there...there is some in a neighborhood in houston within a four way stop intersection which doesn't make sense...
when you have a roundabout, you must yield, not stop and then yield...
but yea I love them

Would work perfectly well in a low-to medium traffic situation, but if the traffic gets heavy prepare for gridlock punctuated by brief suicidal lunges through cross-traffic!

Um, and I think the rule is to yield to the left, except in the UK.

At a area I frequent in CA, there is only a few stop signs (excluding the ones that lead to highway 1). Most intersections there have no traffic signs or markers whatsoever.

In Miami roundabouts are used quite they work pretty effectively. I like them, you dont stop moving, way better than stop signs or traffic lights.

No signs will leave jurisdictions open to litigation IMHO. I think this will be a short lived experiment.

I hate speed bumps with a passion.

They are useless to slow down the people they were intended to target and the rest of us are forced to drive over them and get jolted around. I own, drive and prefer cars lower to the ground with stiffer suspensions. My car's suspension is not modified.

Every time I encounter speed bumps, I must slow down to nearly a complete stop, disengage and re-engage my clutch, and speed up again, only to repeat the process a few dozen feet down the road.

Many drivers with large and small vehicles alike just plow on through those speed bumps. You can hear the suspensions of small sedans bottoming out as they cross over them.

It's annoying to deal with and even more annoying to see folks drive right on through them at full speed. You bet I take every opportunity to drive around speed bumps!

Shit, here we have remind people that "Objects In Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear" because people are too retarded to figure that out, and then Ford gets sued when someone yells "duhhh mirra be warped!" and some jackass judge/jury agrees. You just put 65 on a sign here and people will claim it is a reminder for their retirement age.

The amount of road signs really overwhelmed me when I first came to the U.S. There is no way of looking at the road if you try to pay attention to all of them. And most of these signs have much more than just pictures or numbers on them. Speed limit signs for examle. Why the hell it writes "speed limit" on all of them? Just put a black and white (rectangular) sign that reads 65. That's it. That's how it is in Europe, just a red-white circle and 130 written on it. The reason we have signs is to give the information as quickly as possible. Most signs in U.S. are not doing that. Like the "buckle up for the next milloin miles" sign. What the hell is that?! You don't have to put the whole law books on the road!!

My neighborhood has what the city planners call "traffic Calming" which includes speed bumps, curb extensions, lane closures, Traffic Circles etc. All of the signs that go along wiht this plan do not calm traffic, In fact it angers them, they put in the speed bumps to slow people down, now they drive on the sidewalk to avoid the bumps in the road. hoever the traffic circles are a great idea, they keep the traffic moving and once everybody learns how to use them accidents are almost non-existent. this sounds like a great idea.

This wouldn't work here. Americans in general are VERY irresponsible when it comes to driving already as it is. Too busy talking on the phone, text messaging, eating, drinking, etc. Instead of focusing their attention on driving, they do everything but. Why do you think there is so much relying on Navigation systems in this country?
If they want to increase safety they need to "enforce the laws that already exist" because they go ahead and try new things. Start by suspending(without "warnings") licenses when an officer sees a driver do anything along the lines of what I listed above, while they are driving. That'll put a scare in the public and hopefully would change their driving behaviors.

I think what is stated in this article could be possible in this country, but only in the future...the FAR, FAR, future.

It would not work in the USA. I'll go as far to say that it may not even work in anything other than moderately sized cities and towns.

I hope they are right, however, and it does prove to be a better system. That would be very interesting. The entire world has become so familiar with the car as personal transportation, maybe we actually could try new regulation of small roads.

Of course, they ARE better trained over there... and more polite. Alas.

Agreed... this will never work in the US. People already say "fukk you" to most traffic signs and regulations.

Of course driver training here in the US is almost non-existent, so it is no wonder nobody obeys any rules.

If it was not for taxes, socialized medicine, and the whole language thing, I'd move there. They get all the better cars anyway.

Another reason why it wouldn't work here is that these signs and rules oftentimes help determine who's at fault in an accident. Without the ability to assign blame, how will the insurance companies and lawyers make their money?

Well Right turns are safer but I imagine when you make a left turn you wouldnt be used to it.
Good point about it not working here. That and the city wouldnt get enought money from tickets.

Oh, and the reason it wouldnt work here in the States is because "socially responsible behavior" does not exist here and is even looked down upon...

If this articles real, then wow, that shit would NEVER work in the US!! And the first time I was in a round-about, just a few weeks ago, I drove around in circles 3 times before finally getting off at the wrong exit point - I swear I started laughing my ass off in the car by myself as I pictured myself as I was doing an exact replica of Chevy Chase in European Vacation!
