Update: Mercedes-Benz confirms moving into Pacifica design studio

05/30/2008, 2:43 PM

By paulee

Last week’s reports of Mercedes-Benz buying Chrysler’s Pacifica Advanced Design Center are now confirmed, with the German automaker moving its operations there in July. The automaker will leave its current U.S. design headquarters in Irvine, California, with the 35,000 square foot Carlsbad location offering Benz designers nearly three times as much space, allowing the construction of full-scale vehicle models.

Just how much money traded hands in the deal between the two companies, which merged and recently separated again, is not known, though AutoWeek previously reported the property was listed at $7.3 million.

“The substantial enlargement of our design studio in California bears testament to the growing importance of design at Mercedes-Benz,” said Gorden Wagener, head of strategic advanced design for Mercedes-Benz Cars, in a press release.

Did Mercedes really needs this design studio, or was it just more divorce crap

nonamedenton1, mercedes had to pay 100 million dollars to get out of the chrysler deal. my guess is they had to pay to get their design studio back too.

rafa, development of full-size vehicles requires at least 800 square foot per designer to throw crumpled paper sketches in to wire mesh wastepaper baskets

Mercedes own fault for screwing over Chrysler, they took a profitable comapny and ruined it.

Lol M-B screwed over CHrysler! Some of you live in one strange fantasy world where Chrysler actually had something to offer Daimler-Benz at the time of the merger. Chrysler may have been profitable but given that there had been almost zero investment in futire product lines of any worth, we all know now where that profit came from. M_B got its fingers burnt and is well rid of CHrysler

I hear they’re trying to locate old props and stage sets from Hogan’s Heroes in an attempt to recreate Stalag 13 so that when Zetsche visits he can put on the monacle and pretend he’s Klink. Apparently Deiter’s not comfortable unless their are American plots to foil.

LaCaLover, you are so stupid it amazes me. Chrysler is well rid of Mercedes, which dumped money into that pit of marque known as Maybach. Mercedes is always try to compete with BMW and does too much stupidity, they underestimated the American public when they ran Chrysler and burned themselves with their own inept leadership.

pherarey, you are even dumber the LaCaLover. In the 1990’s before the so called “merger of equals” between DiamlerBenz and Chrysler, the Chrysler Corp. was a profitable company that competed well in the domestic market. The leadership of Mercedes ruined Chrysler, you idiot.

I though overestimation of the American public was the main problem with foreign countries
