wagon, better late than never. Besides, Hybrid in a small car doesn't make a lot of sense. Small gasoline and diesel engines can be quite efficient. 2010 would be about right when the Daewoo Aveos start breaking down.

This car looks nice. I like this car because it doesn't look like an American car. Finally Ford did something smart bring over the European/Asian/world car, which ever one it is. Now Ford has to scrap all their American designs except the trucks and bring over the European cars. Where is the Mondeo and the Focus. They need these cars to compete or they might go bankrupt and an Indian company will have to buy them out. I wonder if Americans would still buy Fords if that happened. This is coming too late, by that time Honda will already have a new Fit to market probably with a hybrid powerplant in it.

You state that this is a US spec Fiesta, yet I'm pretty sure those are EU spec bumpers.

Regardless, I'm excited for all these EU vehicles to hit Canada. It is about time!

Well done, Ford! So glad to see a fuel efficient car that doesn't look like it was purposely designed to be ugly! Glad to see someone in the big 3 final realized that fuel conscious consumers care about styling. This looks so much better than the Honda Fit. I hope the interior can compete with seat configuration functionality. If so, Ford should have a winner on its hands.

is this the mpg 67.3 - 76.3???? where do I sign?!?!

The most frugal variant is the ECOnetic, capable of 76.3mpg with a CO2 figure of 99g/km. But even the 1.6-litre TDCi we drove achieves 67.3mpg while pushing out only 110g/km in emissions. The smooth, refined unit offers punchy performance, so the car is equally at home whether zipping around town or effortlessly racking up the motorway miles.

Somehow Ford manages to always make the interiors just worthless. They look cool in concept form, but just never quite translate. Remember the 90s Taurus interior, or the first gen Focus? They throw in these crazy whacked out shapes, and before they even make production they already look dated. They should take a few cues from ze germans. An interior does not need to be flashy to be nice and functional. Save the flash for the outside.

If this is truly US-spec, then it's obvious Ford's "Bold" 3-bar grille is dead after the Fusion refresh.

I am a fan of Mazda and drive a Mazda, but to tell Ford to just import the Mazda2 is ignorant. You forget the fact that Ford itself has a more stronger dealer network and can sell the Fiesta in much larger volume than Mazda. YOU are lame.

You guys have to see this car in person... It is truly beautiful! I spoke to an engineer leaving the building and he told me that the U.S. Spec Fiesta will have a 2.0 litre I4. Ford also was able to maintain amazing quality with the fit and finish on this vehicle.

tzu13.. you are absolutely right. Unfortunately, it still doesn't look as good as the Mazda2.

longshot.. I think your strategy is pretty on the money.. though I doubt the Fiesta will replace the Focus in the US when it arrives as a 2010 model. I agree the current Euro Focus will finally make it here badged as a stopgap Mercury in 2010, but will be phased out (along with the entire Mercury brand) around 2012-2013 once the next Euro Focus arrives here as a Ford for the 2011 or 2012 model year.

Everything I've read indicated that Ford is leaning toward the following small strategy in the U.S. going forward.

1. Fiesta comes to U.S. in 2010 as a 2011 model.

2. NA Focus is phased out over the same period.

3. Euro Focus is brought in during the same period as a Mercury, allowing it to sell for the $19-$21K that it needs to in the U.S. for it to be profitable for Ford, while the Fiesta sells at current NA Focus pricing - keeping the two from competing and stealing sales from each other.

Of course, being that this is Ford we're talking about, the above will likely never happen, as it makes FAR too much sense. ;)

t-ak-box, You are correct. The Fiesta is on a different & smaller platform vs the Euro spec Focus.

However it's not too much smaller. Especially when they are both hatchbacks. I just think that if the Fiesta is going to cost less than the Focus & get slightly better gas mileage, the consumer is going to jump on that before they will get the Focus. But that's just what I think.

t-ak-box, You are correct. The Fiesta is on a different & smaller platform vs the Euro spec Focus.

However it’s not too much smaller. Especially when they are both hatchbacks. I just think that if the Fiesta is going to cost less than the Focus & get slightly better gas mileage, the consumer is going to jump on that before they will get the Focus. But that’s just what I think.

Ωçµ you, Mayer. And Ktulu, be clad you didn't spell your name Cthulhu.

I don't know about that interior too much. It looks like an alien that wants to stick me with needles. However, I'm really liking the Fiesta. I hope they do some crazy interior colors, though. I'm tired of black, grey and tan interiors.

Finally. An American car that looks good and good mileage. Memo to Ford, do all you can to get it here ASAP, not 2010.

Looking good, Ford. This should compete very well against the Fit, Yaris, Polo, Getz etc.

Production has begun in Cologne, Germany on the EU spec version. The Asia version begins later this year in Thailand and China. The U.S. has very different crash standards, and since North America joined the Fiesta program late, the platform had to be modified outside of EU's design cycle. The earliest a Fiesta could have been launched here was mid-2009. Issues finding a plant for NA pushed it to very late 2009 or very early 2010. However, it may still be a 2010 model.
