Veritas RS III enters production

10/20/2009, 4:19 PM

By Drew Johnson

Following its world debut at the London Salon Privé earlier this year, the Veritas RS III has officially entered production at Vermot AG’s Grafschaft-Gelsdorf, Germany factory. The Veritas RS III has been a long time in the making, tracing its roots back to 2001’s Veritas RS3 concept car.

Essentially a race car for the street, the carbon-kevlar bodied car is powered by a 507 horsepower version of BMW’s 5.0L V10. That power combined with the car’s 2,400 pound curb weight can rocket the Veritas RS III from 0-60 in under 3.2 seconds with a top speed capped at 217mph. Like the Dodge Viper, the Veritas RS III doesn’t include any electronic nannies

Originally slated for a production run of 50 units per year, Veritas now says it will only produce 30 total examples of the radical roadster. Twelve of the 30 units have reportedly been spoken for, all with a price tag north of $487,000. Deliveries will begin in January 2010.

The RS III marks the first car Veritas has produced since 1952. Veritas made a name for itself in the late 1940s and early 50s modifying BMW products, but folded shop after producing only 75 vehicles.

Is it really a “version” of the 5.0 V10? Same horsepower figures…

Well, I guess everyone who worried about where they’d go if anything bad ever happened to the Viper now have one heck of a life raft. Too bad it isn’t American. Of course, is the Viper American anymore? Sigh . . .

no electronic nannies and a v10 producing more then 500hp in a car that weighs only a little more then a lotus. that a real car that you yourself can actually drive sounds like a fun car ill sure would take one.

Cool…I guess. I style myself as a purist and all, but let’s be honest: $500k is a lot for something with “no electronic nannies.” Makes the Viper look like a bargain.

The only people who would buy something that stupid and impractical is Jay Leno, and some arab oil trustafarians.

@A4…I thought they were going to power the Veritas RS III with a modified version of the BMW V10 that upped power a bit. Maybe they’re not doing that anymore? I dunno. Either way, seems like a fun and absolutely ridiculous toy if you have so much money you use 100 dollar bills as toilet paper…

Just read on another website that had the full press release from Vermot AG and it also states the 507hp statistic. Guess it’s “just” the stock BMW 5.0 V10. lol.
