As previously reported, the McLaren-tuned ASC Diamondback Dodge Viper — first shown at the Detroit auto show in January — is believed to be headed for production as an official 2008 Dodge model. It’s not clear if the car will be offered in its present form as a bridge between the 2006 Viper and the next-generation model (there will be no 2007 Viper), or if these recently-spied prototypes are merely testbeds for the new powertrain. Either way, a recent spy video courtesy of video site StreetFire and spy photographer Brenda Priddy provides an interesting look at the latest prototypes. Video after the jump…

Talk about your mismatched music. I was waiting for ‘Blade’ to leap from the trunk and start slaying people. Instead all I got was 2 Vipers barely pushing 25 mph and a bunch of white guys with igloo coolers.

You won’t see any burnout they’re begining testing the engine on high temperature(that’s why they are on the desert) and it’s normal that the engine stop because it’s in developpement

Yes #7 and #3, lets take our test bed car which happens to be priceless and punish it early on. Find out what really makes it break before we even find out how to make it run right.
And ALL test cars have problems, thats why they make test mules. To figure out and fix the product.

It’s a DODGE, that’s why they’re pushing the prototype. McLaren is probably getting paid a large lump to have their name stamped on the Viper. Dodge has a marketing scheme going. The argument that it’s a test mule and it’s supposed to fail is bull****. First of all, car manufactures calculate on paper all the numbers so that the company doesn’t waste funds on developing something by trial and error. They have computers that simulate all the environments, wind tunnels, etc. Watch the R10 video on YouTube. Or, on a more mainstream base, the BMW 3 series development videos. When you see a test mule, it’s about 90% the finish product. This proves the typical Dodge crappiness. You wont see a Porsche mule getting pushed around, or a BMW, or this Audi R8 prototype. The Viper is done!! It was cool back in the mid 90s, lets move on shall we? Lets get serious about engine development too. Porsche Turbos are getting 25mpg on a 500hp 3.6L cmon!!!

CAAP will shutdown following 8/31/06 and will not reopen until 1/2/07
The 8.4 is rated to more than 700hp, but will be introduced at *only* 650hp.
Built by McLaren Performance Technologies
ZB bows in Q1 ‘07; ZC bows in Q3 ‘08
‘08 will offer both vert and coupe, certification/testing began earlier this year
The process demonstrated by ASC in the Diamondback for producing the car’s panel resulted in a much lower cost per panel as the pieces no longer have to be “cured” in the same manner that traditional carbon fiber panels need to be. Look for this on the ZC
ZCC Firepower Cpe V-1 7/xx/08
ZCC Firepower Roadster V-1 1/xx/09
ZCC Viper Roadster V-1 1/xx/09
ZCC Viper Cpe V-1 7/xx/09
Chevy SS Vette will not be able to meet 700-HP unless they swapped for a bigger engine displacement.

#16, its because it is NOT that mclaren. this is a us-based tuner group, not the mclaren/mb race group. its an OLD offshoot of that company but nothing to do at all with the ron dennis company.

Spy Video of the 2008 McLaren Dodge Viper
Spy photographer Brenda Priddy shows us a video on the site StreetFire.net of the 2008 Viper being tested. Sadly, they don’t do anything cool with it. No burnout, not even hard acceleration. Plus, it dies on them and they have to push it. Funny s…

Andrew got it spot on. This is Mclaren technologies which was setup by Bruce Mclaren (Creator of Mclaren cars e.g. Mclaren F1) but is not the same company that produced the F1 or SLR.
This was setup by Bruce for the American market and motorsport whereas the other was for Formula 1 which later went into production cars to make the F1 and SLR.

I hate it how mercedes incorporates the brands it buys into its cars such as the Mercedes Mcalern SLR. Or the Mercedes Myabach 62. I think Mclaren should have been a different brand and not make cars for Mercedes instead make their own cars called Mclarens which looked like Mclarens not Mercedes. Because reALLY THE slr IS NOT A MCLAREN its a MERCEDES with Mclaren technology.
