Earlier today AMG officially revealed the second car it ever fully developed on its own, the SLS AMG Roadster. Now, AMG has put together a video outlining the company’s 44-year history and the achievements it has accomplished in its relatively short existence.
AMG finds it literal roots in Burgstall, Germany, 1967, with its original intention to serve as a racing engine forge for Mercedes-Benz. By 1978, AMG moved all but its racing engine operations from Burgstall to Affalterbach, and continued its efforts of modifying Mercedes-Benz cars unofficially until 1990.
It wasn’t until 1990 that Mercedes-Benz and AMG officially linked up by signing a contract of cooperation, which led to the first collaboration between the two outfits: the 1993 C36 AMG. It was the C36 AMG that formed the true start of the AMG that many have come to know and experience today.
Of course, the founding of Mercedes AMG GmbH didn’t take place until 1999, but by then the partnership between AMG and Mercedes-Benz had clearly turned into a match made in heaven for both parties.
