I would love to have numbers to crunch on for this thing… this is still in between the concept and production form though so I guess we won’t know performance for a while
I hope they stick a high performance small V8 (like 4.8 liters but around 75 hp per liter, giving it around 360 hp but since it isn’t a huge engine, it wouldn’t guzzle that much. And paired with the cylinder deactivation technology I would actually believe this car would get 30 mpg. But with a large V8 like 6.0 liters it would probably only get 60 hp per liter (just guessing from comparable engines) and I wouldn’t believe it got 30 mpg even with CD). Also I hope they put a good V6 in it, like the one in the Mustang but only more powerful (like 240 to 260 hp). That would be AWESOME
I still don’t like the way it looks. In my opinion it looks sort of bulky and big

Put the 4.2 liter Inline six motor from the trailblazer in the base Camaro. The original Camaro had an inline six and that inline sixfrom the trailblazer is a great engine. Nearly 300 horspower in it current form.

Finally, a tru muscle car, that even looks the part better than the 60’s cars. Yeah…2009, why so long a wait, or why even talk about it, I could see a year. Weres the SS version? 20011? I hope they dont bring back the pontiac version, firebird w/boy wonder styled panels and legendary pontiac lack of quality.

They should put it into production slightly earlier, some time like early 2008. That would give them time for the Mustang redesign (due some time around 2009) and would be around the time of the Challenger, plus that wouldn’t rush the developement into the wall.
What they’re going to do is advertise it with all these movies, and try to generate interest until the actual production model comes out. Simple as that, I’m sure we’ll be seeing many more of these movies for those of you who are sick of it. A large contribution of todays news was about the Camaro, and so was yesterdays and the past few weeks.
I always loved the Camaro, but I don’t like this one. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very cool looking, but I actually like the original Camaro that this Camaro is taking from. This one looks very… I don’t know there’s just something to it that I don’t like. Someone stated before that it looked big and bulky to them, and to me it looks like that.

This car is too low and dangerously overcooked in the sense that it takes the ‘69 and adds creases everywhere. Not nearly as good looking as the Dodge Challenger which is how to update a classic design. The Dodge also has an extra 6 inches of wheelbase for a better ride and more interior room.
I will take Bill Mitchell’s gorgeous Buick Y-Job that was in the background though!

OMG that’s enough on the damn Camaro. Finally GM has something that’s worth talking about other than the Vette, and now they won’t shut up. I love the car but im so sick of hearing about it. LLN has too much coverage on this car IMO.
Upcoming LLN headlines…
-”GM announces retractable cupholders”
-”Camaro to get two cigarette lighters!!!”
-”GM reannounces the confirmation of production”
-”A look back at the Production announcement from GM”
- etc, etc, etc…

If you dont want to read about the hottest car since chevy launched the ZO6. go back in the basement and wait for ford and dmx to implode because they cant keep up.

GM needed to manufacture this car back in the 1990’s. They”re 10 years too late. Gas is too high for vehicles like this, although I’m sure that people will buy them.
I’m more interested in a compact to midsize 4 door rear wheel drive car that will deliver decent fuel economy. Equip mine with a diesel engine.
As for this car, it looks a bit overweight and dull, just like its 1960s predecessor.

Wow henry, You’re just now observing that GM consistently arrives with product 15 years late to the market? Look at the brand new 2006 Pontiac Solstice, GM’s answer to a market opened by the Miata in 1990. And the Miata is still better. Chrysler is gonna own this market, the Challenger is coming earlier, and its better.

Chrysler is aiming it’s Challenger at a slightly different market, don’t forget that Madcapp. The Mustang started the pony car craze. I agree that they are 15 years late. Now they are just trying to copy the Mustangs succsess by making a pony car to compete with the Mustang…

^ I don’t see how the challenger is aimed at a slightly different market.
As far as I see it, GT500, Challenger, & Camaro all in the same boat.

Currently Chrysler is to figure out which strategy to follow Andre Neves: A high price, low production run or a low price, high production run.
(sources http://www.allpar.com/cars/dodge/challenger.html )
But some sources are also saying that it will compete with Camaro and Mustang
(sources
http://www.automobilemag.com/auto_shows/naias_2006/0601_dodge_challenger_concept/ )
So it is very confusing. I think it will be a lower production higher priced model, and some sites agree with me while others don’t.

Challenger should be the better choice for the buyer as it will hold its price better then either competition as it will have less production.

Just saw the video…I know, Im late, but it just shows a guy driving a High performance car as if it were a Kia and talking about the same thing over and over using metaphors. Annoying.
BTW, to ALL who are getting excited about the sound of the car…YES it DOES sound amazing. But, there’s no way the production version will sound like that. Pretty sure it doesn’t meet emission requlations.
Anyone else with an LS2 powerplant(vette,GTO) can achieve that sound with a high flow exhaust & Cams. No sweat.

Don’t forget gm was FIRST to redesign the retro late 60s muscle car about? 8 years ago and not enough people liked it so they ditched the idea.
I have driven several of the new chargers (with the hemi with the 350 hp and it was the police package).
It doesn’t feel like it has 350hp/390tq more like 300hp/320tq and the trans is a freakin joke….
But I do love to see the war of the muscle car start up again and it’s never too latetime/sales will have the answer….
It’s kind of funny how people bash what there against and do it only for that reason, but its all in fun ïŠ
