Comedian Eddie Griffin crashed a rare $1.2 million Ferrari Enzo into a concrete barrier during a practice run for a charity race on Monday. The event was planned to promote the upcoming film “Redline,” which centers on a group of rich men who race expensive supercars to the limit.
The movie’s tagline is “Fear Nothing. Risk Everything,” and the film features several crashes of actual cars. Two Porsche Carrera GTs were destroyed during filming.
The Enzo was owned by “Redline” producer and real estate investor Daniel Sadek. Several supercars owned by Sadek — including the Enzo — appear in the movie.
Sadek hoped to create some hype when he announced his own $400,000 Porsche would be destroyed in the film. “We don’t want to do CGI. We thought it would create some hype. People will know we’re destroying a real Porsche — not a model, but a real one.” Sadek said at the time.
Sadek might not have cared about his Porsche, but Monday’s Enzo wrecked was a harder pill to swallow. “I’m glad Eddie came out of the crash OK, but my dream car got destroyed,” Sadek said. “I went to my trailer for about 15 minutes and I thought, there’s people dying every day. A lot of worse things are happening in the world.”
“Undercover Brother’s good at karate and all the rest of that, but the brother can’t drive,” Griffin said.

Meh, it’s just a Ferrari. The event planners are mostly to blame for putting a hairpin turn right next to a concrete barrier. This is what happens when you get inexperienced drivers behind the wheel of a powerful vehicle in what looks like basically an auto cross course. He did the only thing he knew how at the moment, panicked. Most people here, although they all think they’re Mario Andretti, would have done the same.

Who heard of the other Enzo crash?
And the one where a Gizmodo executive had a race with a McMerc SLR near LA, and the Ferrari hit a telegraph pole at 190 mph. Ferrari then said that they could fully repair the car for 300 000 GBP (about 600 000 dollars) . The car had been sliced clean on half, with the engine 100 metres away from the wreckage of the front end.
Notice in the video how little the car is damaged for such a big crash…the advantages of carbon fibre. Ferrari could probably repair it though.

Daniel Sadek has made a ridiculous movie involving the destruction of rare cars in a manner I’d be hard pressed to believe in real life. Given that, why on Earth make a movie like this? Even if it does well at the box office, the CARS will stand the test of time far better than the movie will– so why destroy them in the first place?!
I could understand one or two cars for a movie even if they are Enzo’s and Carerra GT’s, but yet another F&F style film? It’s a double gripe for me: A) bad idea for a film B) destroying handfuls of rare automotive legends for a film.
To the poster who suggested replica cars– yes! Why didn’t they spend the money to make them? Shooting sequences for camera doesn’t even require the same level of car that these machines represent.
Extremely frustrating.

So would that include the manufacturers who often sell them to inexperienced drivers? I mean, I guess it’s becoming more common for the cars to include a day or two of driver training, so I guess that makes it OK.
And I should point out that A) they didn’t intend to wreck the Enzo, and B) at least Griffin was humble about the incident.
The only reason they should’ve used CGI is because the explosions would’ve looked cooler.

I saw this on Yahoo first. He was not even going that fast. After thinking about it, it sounds like a publicity stunt. Furthermore if Ferarri could fix a completely dismembered Enzo then this crash should be easily fixed. I think the producer is a cash rich asshole who really does not get what it is to be enthusiastic about cars. You don’t crash them you drive them and enjoy them. Purposefully destroying exotic cars is a reprehensible act to any car enthusiast.

That is NOT the first time I’ve seen a top tier Ferrari lose all front grip in a flat turn. Truthfully he should have just stopped the car if her couldn’t make the turn.
Despite all the fancy equipment to make that car drivable but the inexperienced multi-millionaires who buy them, they are still so unsafe for the average driver, of which the buyers usually are, that it is not fair to blame the driver. cars like the ENZO, F50, F40, just to name a few were designed for race drivers.
Even try to push the car and you’re asking for trouble.

1) The car IS worth $1.2mil. Those of you who say otherwise have no idea about the manufacturing process behind an Enzo. The car is essentially hand-built (engine AND carbon fiber body) by a team of ultra expert (and costly) master Ferrari mechanics. It uses technologies straight out of F1. To give you an idea, an F1 car costs between $3 to $4mil to put together. Add the fact that it is a limited, collectible piece of automotive history from the greatest sports car maker in the world, and you got yourself the price. If it wasn’t worth it, it wouldn’t have sold out ALL of its models within the first few months it hit the market. It’s not just a fashion statement, this is an ultra rare exotic. How many of you have even SEEN one in real life? Exactly.
2) To those of you saying- “It’s just a car”… why are you even on this website blogging comments? A Camry is a car. An Enzo is an Enzo.

$1.2M is a heavy mark up. The ENZO is supposed the sticker at $750k. The FXX is priced at $1.8M without mark up. All that ignoring the fact that you have to “qualify” for the chance to buy one. But aside from that I agree that the car is made of the best stuff by the best people Ferrari has or can find. That said, it is also one of the wussiest cars I have even seen, killed by a cone. A supposedly near flawless (anything made by human hands is never perfect) car of the age costing a fortune, killed by a 10 dollar cone. You watch the video, and you can see that this supercar lost all front traction and couldn’t steer. Corvettes, Vipers, Porsches, Saleens, Lamborghini’s, TVR’s, Z-cars, the list goes on, have to pass basic safety requirements just to be street-legal. I guess building only 399 units means you can skirt the laws of safety and make a car like that.
If I worked for Ferrari I would feel a sharp stab of shame at seeing this “supreme” specimen of the automotive species so easily undone. The Enzo is indeed a Enzo. It is NOT a car or a supercar… it is a $1.2M coffin on wheels.
Senor Enzo must be fuming and rolling and cursing in his grave. His final car the F40 is far superior and cooler looking… and it never got killed by hitting a traffic cone.

A set of TIRES for that car costs 12g’s. That much front end damage, EASILY half a mil.
And yes, supercars, like racecars, are NOT designed for hairpin, low speed corners. A Mini could have taken that turn faster. But a Mini can’t come off the back straight at 160mph!

Griffin should not have been driving the Enzo simply because he needed to be schooled in the car—nothing else, and like everyone else who wishes to drive an exotic. It is like giving a sixteen old the top-of-the-line sportbike when he’s never ridden one. Sure, he might be able to ride it, but chances are he has no clue what the bike is capable of, and therefor can easily get into trouble. In fact, it is the dumb**** owner who is at fault. Felix1805, the Bugatti Veyron doesn’t cost a few million to make. Every car they sell makes a profit against the MANUFACTURING COSTS of the car. What makes each car “cost” a few million is the cost of research and development that went in to them. The fact that it is a limited run means they can do simple math and take the total cost or R&D and manufacturing for each unit, and divide that by the number to be sold. That cost will be a couple million, but each car does not cost over a million to manufacture.
