Video: GT500 goes to Germany in new Ford TV spot

09/09/2006, 2:36 PM

By admin

“You couldn’t find a car you liked in Germany?” asks a German worker as he unloads an American’s Ford GT500 Mustang from a crate. “No … I couldn’t find a speed limit I liked in America,” replies the car’s owner. That exchange is part of a new Ford television ad for the automaker’s flagship sports car, which proudly states “Bold is 500 hp.” Ford is hoping ads like this one will help improve public perception and legitimize Ford cars as an alternative to European offerings. Video after the jump…

some people would want it because some people are stupid. there is no way in hell someone would go to germany with that car and drive that fast in the rain, much less overtake a $500,000 Carerra GT.

The GT500 will do very well in the land of $6/gallon gas.

/I actually have no idea how expensive gasoline is on the Continent, I just pulled that number outa my arse.

no one ever said that driving that fast on american roads is legal. just because you can doesnt make it ok. at least out in the desert there hardly any traffic. wish we had desert in chicago :(

good ad, and despite the comments here about the carrera (which will be lost on 99.9% of the viewers), it does reinforce the positioning of the mustang.

good work, ford and ford’s agency!

Basically Ford is saying thier Mustang is not bold beacuse in reality it does not have 500 hp. And they say bold is 500 hp.

I think this is their best “Bold” ad to date. Passing a Carrera GT is bogus, but i thought it was pretty cool that they threw such a prestegous car into the picture rather than another Opel or some ****can.

I guess Ford wasn’t very serious about that commercial ;) I am from Germany and atm a liter of fuel costs about 1,25 Euro, that is quite exactly $6 per gallon. Some weeks ago it was nearly $7 per gallon.

Ford WOULD have the nerve to show the GT500 passing the Carerra GT, first its impossible, second its just dumb to even choose the Carerra GT as the car it would pass, maybe an M3 would be more reasonable.

I dont think that ford was trying to show that it could over take the porsche GT C. But More of look at the type of cars that you would be driving on the road with. Faster cars. See this is were the Shelby belongs and roads with other fast cars. NOt saying that it will race the other cars. Its about you and the car not you and racing other cars.

****, you can say what you want about the GT500. But it was awsome in 67 and it’ll be awesome in 07. You people just like pretending that you can buy a Porsche GT so you think the GT500 is ****. Well, you’re wrong.

but…guess what JD, that’s not the point Ford is trying to convey! They are clearly trying to make it look like the GT500 is a faster car, i dont think you can argue that.

I’m sure most of the folks that are making comments have driven both cars right?,and you all know what 500hp feels like right?Everyone knows when you add a fart can and a cold air intake to a honda it gets 500hp…

09/14, 6:46 AM

All these negative replies only mean 2 things: (1) You really love the car, but can’t afford it, so therefore it’s junk, or (2) You drive a ricer and think those fart cans are badass, just because they sound like leaf blowers. I’d put that Mustang up against your souped-up Honda anyday, and kick your ass every time. Then lets see how much you brag, oh wait, you’re already good at making excuses, so you would have one for that too.

By the way, if anyone wants an inteeligent comparison, a Carrera GT lists for $440,000, a Shelby lists for around $45,000. Add about $5000 worth of speed parts to the Ford and you’ll have a real embarrassed German! LOL
